Lets say I have a 6GB RAM kit, consisted of 3 2GB sticks and i want to upgrade(which I do :p). The kit is in triple channel and my motherboard has 3 more empty slots for another possible module.

Upgrade A: I buy the exact same kit. I install it and thus have two triple channel memory modules.

Upgrade B: I buy a new kit of 3 4GB sticks. It is same brand and product line. It also has the same bandwidth and timings as my old one. Same specs, other than size. I completely remove the old and place the new one in its place.

Which upgrade is better and why? Which is faster? Which has more bandwidth?
