    not necessarily..i've have bad discs not want to burn..but trying to burn a mp3 or pic disc might work...but it seems the setors are bad or the laser is having some difficulty...discs would be a cheaper and initially better problem to start with...

    @tophee...have you tried using other dvd burning programs? possibly dvd shrink, dvd decrypter, alcohol, or nero to burn the image to a disc?

    Thanks for all your help. I ended up taking the tower to a repair place.....I tried all the suggestions, but nothing was working and I was getting very frustrated. I'll let you know how it goes once I get it back!!!

    Thanks again!!

    @rbrock
    lol - maybe not. I would not be surprised if the shop comes back and says they can't find anything wrong with the drive itelf but I could be VERY wrong on that. I would have tried a few different things 1st.
    Hopefully tophee99 will keep us up to date on what they say.

    It was the burner. I now have a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-111D. I've tried it and it will burn both the Dataware and Maxell's that I have.

    Thanks so much for everyone's help!!!
