This is the second time this has happened to me...in the midst of burning files onto the DVD disc, nero suddenly gives me a message saying that burn process has failed. I've already wated 3 DVD discs within two days because of this problem

THere's nothing wrong with the software (at least I think) because I got it directly from the official nero site. WHy is it doing this? One minute it's burning perfectly, the next it gives me error messages. It seems like every other DVD I burn, the error message pops up.

    What could be wrong??
Btw- I was copying a DVD disc when this happened. This is what the error message said:

Here is one of your problems:

1.Disc Manufacturer ID: CMC MAG, Media Type ID: E01, Product revision number: 0
    Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)

Try using better blank media Like Verbatim

2.You are also burning to close to the outer rim:

Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB)
Last address to be written: 2267663 (503:55.38, 4429MB)

Set the size in Nero to custom and make it 4300

What do you mean by burning too close?
I'm a newbie..sorry for being ignorant. I did use a blank media. The brand I used was imation DVD + R....Could you explain in detail what the problem is? Thanks so much.

btw- I have blank medias I bought on ebay...are those reliable or not? (they're not brand names)

Burning to close is the DVD Burner is writing the DVD Data too close to the outer edge. The dye there is usually bad. That is why i suggested you lower the DVD compression size back to 4300mb

You used the branded version Of Imation Blank DVD's but they were really made by CMC. CMC usually makes crappy media so you need to avoid those like the plague. The blank media you bought on Ebay and the Imation disk you have are just not suitable for doing DVD Movies. The preferred brand around here is Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Riteks (G05's) If you purchase them from a reputable dealer like Newegg, Rima, MediaSuperstore then you should get the better blank media

In Nero using Recode 2 on the main screen on the lower right hand side is a box that says FIT TO TARGET. Make sure a check mark is in the box and below that change the number to 4300MB

If you have any more questions please post back.

Thanks so much. So this should prevent future error messages.

I'm surprised that imation isn't good quality. So I should stick with the brands you mentioned?
I'll try burning tonight after adjusting the settings. Thanks.

If I have anymore troubles/issues, I'll post again. Thaks so much.

P.S Could you visit this link and tell me which ones are good? I'm working within a budget so nothing too too pricey...

I have been having very similar issues - where burning is taking (at least from what the on-screen clock suggests) as much as 4 hours to burn 2 Gbz onto a DVD+R. Also, NERO has, on the first three attempts, given me a message that it failed.

I have attempted to work with the tech staff for NERO, who suggested downloading a current version, as well as addressing the firmware for the DVD drive. I have done both, but still see incredibly slow burn times.

    Any ideas?

    zebra16,
Your problems are probably caused by the burner going into PIO Mode instead of staying in DMA Mode. Go into device manager and looK for IDE/ATA controllers and then click on that. Go to the sec. IDE controllers and right click itand go to properities and click that and then go to advanced settings and see if the controllers are in DMA mode. If not change them to DMA.
Windows starts off the controllers in DMA and for every conflict brings the setting down 1 notch.
You might also google for a free registry cleaner and let the registry cleaner clean any possible conflicts you might have in the registry

hey..I just checked but the DVD disc I used was memorex not imation..so why did it say imation on the error log??? Isn't memorex supposed to be good? WHy did it malfunction? Is it because of burning too close to the rim?? Sorry for all the questions..I'm just really curious.

Download the latest updates for Nero and then back off your burn speed to half what you are using. Better yet use DVDFab Express with DVDIdle Pro available at www.dvdidle.com. Nero is too inconsistent for wwriting at this time since it keeps going through a perpetual upgrade process.

    JJYkim,
Memorex is close to the bottom of the barrel and some members can burn w/ them but most find out they are junk. They are good for data and Pictures but not for compressed Movies. Just try and get the Verbatim if you can. Yes burning too close to the outer rim will cause problems because that is where the dye is the thinness

Just what is it you are trying to burn, if it is a movie, are you already using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink programs? If you are then set DVD Shrink to burn with Decrypter instead of Nero, and see if this works.

right now, I'm using nero to burn avi files to the dvd disc.
I did try burning this series that's on dvd using nero, and it worked...but the rest didn't.

If a dvd doesn't have a block that prevents people from ripping it, is it possible to use nero to rip and copy the dvd? For instance, I was burning this korean tv series that's on a dvd, and it didn't seem to have a block...or should I always just use the decrypt softwares you mentioned?

I have another question..it's slightly off topic but not entirely. So the data I burnt onto the cheap discs...are they safe or should I burn them onto another dvd? In other words..they work perfectly fine now, but would they stop working in the future?

More specifically, these are avi files..they're tv episodes that I dled. Would it be safe to copy these files onto my hardrive from the cheap dvds and then burn them onto a new disc or should I re-download these files?
