trouble playing converted dvd

    Help....
    I am trying to understan why my converted DVD will not play on my standalone dvd player. Some will , some will not...
    I copied a AVI format movie on my hard drive. I then converted the AVI to DVD so I can burn movie on a DVD. Problem is after burning to DVD, I get error message on my standalone player " error, cannot play" . however the dvd will play on my computer dvd drive. Also some of my converted dvd will play. Is there anyway I can hope to play all my movies...
