I haven't noticed any other problems with any other aspect of the computer since this started happening. I guess I'll give hp a call; it's been driving me nuts. Is it possible to wear out a DVD writer?
Burn errors would drive me nuts too Yep dvd writers wear out sooner or later though some it seems sooner than later. Still check the connections and make sure all good there. Keep us posted on the outcome. Hopefully a good one
OK. I finally found the time and got the courage to call hp(I hate speaking to 1-800 support lines). They said that I have to back up all of my data and then do a full system recovery? I can't believe that this is the only solution. Would it be easier to just replace my writer? It doesn't seem that hp writers are all that great any way (not after this experience).
If it won't void your warranty, buy a new drive an put it in yourself. Although backing up your system is a good idea anyway - especially if you are going to work on your machine - it's probably cheaper and less hassle than updating your system, sending it back to HP, or being limited to a certain kind of media, etc. Get yourself a nice NEC 3550a or Pioneer 111.
