    More on my post earilier today. I came home from work and re ripped in file mode. I then shrunk the whole thing(less some of stupid extras) using Nero Recode. NO PROBLEMS. I was running into an error when I tried to use Shrink. If this is ARccOS it is a completely new version. Any body have any light they could shed on the subject?

    I read this was RIPGUARD also, but if Decrypter did it by itself I doubt its the new Ripguard protection. Guess I'll have to get a copy and check it out.

    If Shrink failed and Recode did not, it means it is a structure protection system. Recode may process it, but make sure it works correctly when you burn. This means, save the image and burn to a DVDRW and test it before burning to a DVDR.

    Sometimes these problems arise from badly authored DVDs too, but I doubt that is the case here.

    If the error was something like: "Invalid Data in VTS_XX_1.VOB" then the protection was not removed properly.

    Also, check out the link to the guide again. I made some updates on on which steps are optional. I also pointed out that IFOEdit will create a new VTS, but it will be in a different folder, so you will have to drag and drop to the original.

    They have released a new version of DVDFab Decrypter. It fixes the "Madagascar" issue. This is taken from the change log in DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.5.8:
    [bold]Make sure you uninstall your current version of DVDFab Decrypter before you install this version!![/bold]

    You can get it here: http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

    @temj, heres a little trick you may not know, if you edit your last post, dont change anything and just hit save changes it will convert that last link into something understandable. Cheers.

    @JaguarGod

    The burn was good. The DVD plays well in all three of my players here.

    @christ93,

    I am glad to hear that it worked. I backed a movie where I got an error on VTS_xx_0.VOB and it turned out that only the movie worked correctly. The chapter menu only links to one of the special features for some reason and the special features just makes the DVD freeze.

    I don't mind much as I can still access everything using the "Display" button on my DVD Remote, but it is better to have a fully functioning menu.

    @Jaguagod

    Your guide is a bit on the murky side. The first two pictures that you reference are small and very hard to read. I watched, well skipped from chapter to chapter, on two of the three players and checked the extra content that I did keep and all is well. Any determination on weather this is a multi version spewage of ARccOS or Ripguard?

    It is good that it worked. Just keep what I said in mind. The error in Shrink means that there is still something wrong in the DVD's structure. That means the protection was not completely removed. However, the problem may be on cells that are not used for actual playback, which is most likely your case.

    What I was referring to was a non Sony movie. I forgot which one, but all it had was Macrovision. There was a problem in the main menu with some of the cell commands. This was a low budget movie and these things are not authored like they should be (I could do a better job than them for sure and I do not have much experience in that department).

    As for the first two pictures of the guide, they are not crucial so I resized them, otherwise it would have taken much space (the guide was originally on .doc & .pdf). The first picture is when you open VIDEO_TS.IFO. If you look at the bottom half of the IFOEdit screen, it will list the titles of the movie:

    Title 1: VTS_02* .......
    Title 2: VTS_05* .......
    .
    .
    .
    .
    Title 8: VTS_01* .......

    It will tell you which VTS are real and which are part of the protection. If a VTS is not referenced here, then ripping it will give you problems. For Resident Evil Apocalypse, only VTS 1 through 6 were referenced. This means that VTS-07 & VTS-08 are fakes. This helps when you rip the rest of the Disc (not the main movie).

    The second picture showed that DVD Decrypter listed the fake files after the real ones. The newer versions of Decrypter do not do this the same way. The shot shows VTS_05 highlighted (it detected the full-screen version as the main movie). Then underneath this was VTS_06 and after VTS_06_0.BUP it lists VTS_02_5.VOB. The actual widescreen movie spanned through 4 VOBs and was under 3.6 GB. VTS_02_5.VOB was not part of the movie. The newer Decrypter will rip this VOB, but insert a dummy sector. Since IFOEdit was used to correct the movie, it was not necessary to rip this VOB.

    In Bewitched, if you rip everything and then try run it through Shrink, you will get an error similar to this "Error VTS_02_5.VOB, failed to find Data". It may be referenced in some of the cell commands, but it was not on the disc. In VobBlanker, you would get an error like "reached end of VOB too early".

    I beleive that you can get past these errors by waiting for Decrypter to actually rip (but still skip) the bad sectors, but this can take some time and may be bad for your DVD-ROM. Skipping the bad cells and adding a little extra work is worth it in my opinion.

    I opened Madagascar using IfoEdit and am looking at the lower screen. I know that DVDD ran into the pack header errors in VTS_08.vob. These are referenced in the lower screen. BTW, what is a pack header error? There are 4 VTS_08 referenced in IfoEdit, yet when I count the actual number of VTS_08.Vobs on the disk there are 5. Is this what I should be looking for? Also when I drill down and open 8's IFO I notice that there are some really short(.17) PGCs in there. Is that another sign?

    There is a chance that the short PGCs are the Dummy menus. These dummies contain the commands to make the DVD run as intended. There are two different places to look for PGCs. There is "VTS_PGCITI", which is for the actual video; & "VTSM_PGCI_UT", which is for the menus. If you are in the one for the menus, then this is normal.

    As for the main movie, here is a screen shot of the fixed Bewitched VTS_02.IFO (bottom of the IFOEdit screen only):

    [IMG]

    I would have taken a shot of the original, but I did not back those up for some reason.

    This is what you get when you first open the IFO without clicking on anything on the top part. This is the chapter list for the movie. Notice how you can read the Cell IDs and that they begin with cell 23. I am guessing that the Pack header error was located in one of the cells that were removed (one of the first 22). The original one had a ton of "Layer Break" cells and these were very short. See the lengths of the new ones? The shortest is about 24 seconds and that is the Lady Liberty/red wagon logo.

    What does this look like for VTS_08_0.IFO of Madagascar?

    As for pack headers, I am not too familiar with those. I think a pack header is what gives the information about the VOB, meaning the synchronization, mux rate, etc... An error here could mean that there is an invalid bit value somewhere. I would have to read up on the DVD Spec to know for sure, but that is a pretty long read.

    Now when you look at the number of VTS_08 remember that VTS_08_0 does not count since that is the menu. If there is a VTS_08_5.VOB then you could have something. Say that VTS_08_4.VOB is under .99GB and then you have a VTS_08_5.VOB, this would be a suspect as part of some protection.

    I would rip it alone and then test playback. Only the first VOB of a VTS will be unrippable by conventional means (File mode). However, DVD Decrypter in IFO Mode, will not rip the extra VOB if there is one. This is because IFO mode will rip by PGC.

    What I meant to look for however, was Dummy VTS. I do not know if Madagascar has them, but say the last VTS was VTS_20. When you look at VIDEO_TS.IFO, it may only reference upto VTS_17. This means that all of VTS 18, 19 , & 20 are dummy VTS.

    There was some talk about an error in VTS_16 (I might be confusing it with Stealth though). There is a chance that Macrovision implemented the extra VTS thing differently. Possibly this one is referenced in the VIDEO_TS.IFO, but is never played. If this is the case, the best thing to do is only rip the IFO and the menu VOB. Then blank out the VTS with VobBlanker. Not ripping it at all can also be possible, but it may cause an error in compression software, but there is a way around that too.

    There is a small chance that I will now buy Madagascar as it comes with a lot of free stuff like a 6 pack of 1 liter Evian, Free Popcorn, Free Hershey's snacks, and upto $8 in rebates. The Evian alone is a $7 value and that is something I buy anyways and I am out of popcorn...

    In the meantime, if you want, you can send me the IFOs by e-mail. There is a chance that I may find what is causing the error in Shrink. Let me know and I can then give you my e-mail through PM.

    "Packer Heading" warnings are %80 of the time caused by AnyDVD or DVD43 or some other type of copyright bypassing software being ran at the same time as DVD Decrypter.

    This DVD was done in a pretty complex way. There are so many Titles in this movie that is will take a while to see what is actually going on.

    Just taking a quick look at VTS_08_0.IFO, I do not like cells 2 & 3 of the main movie. If there are corrupted (unrippable) cells, I would b=place my bet on those two. However I can tell you that the actual movie begins with cell 5, so if you try to rip with Decrypter, that would be the cell to start at.

    There are 4 PGCs that are also very short. These are PGC 2, 3, 4, & 5 of VTS_08. Perhaps these should be blanked out or not ripped at all. I will have to look at what the precommands do here.

    I will take a closer look at all of the IFOs tomorrow. I will be leaving in about 90 minutes, so I have to finish a few task and get ready.

    EDIT: movie begins in cell 5 not 6.

    Just got back and will look at the IFOs some more today and hopefully figure something out tomorrow.

    I ripped Madagascar with DVD DECRYPTER with no problems in ISO, but when I burned it to DVD+ DL, I got an error 48% into the burn. I was not happy with a $2 coaster. Has anyone made a 1:1 copy?
