Trying to find some software

I was wondering if there is a software package that will allow me to view DVD's on my current system, or if I will have to purchase an actual DVD player. I have a 50x CD-Rom and a 4x4x32 burner currently installed. When I put a DVD into the system, neither drive would recognize it. Is there something that I can use? I have the DivX codecs for Windows Media Player, but they weren't working either.

You need a DVD-ROM drive and either a hardware MPEG2 decoder board, or a software DVD player. Many of ATI's (and others') video boards support "DVD." PowerDVD is the only software package that comes to mind at the moment, but there are others.

But, I agree, a standalone player would be better.
