Yes it is just more scare tactics from them you can't send a virus or the likes down coaxial cable which is what we use for out cable tv but if it makes you feel better then turn off your box,it's entirely up to you.

i heard nthell are sending a big satellite into space as we speak with a special camera that can see through house roofs........there going to look into houses and identify anyone with the box and fire nuclear missiles at them.

Luckily my box is in the nuclear bunker in my back garden so im fine

What the lads are saying is correct , a virus is a file which is designed to hijack a particular vulnerability in an operating system.Information can be sent down cable that's how normal boxes can receive updates but in the case of these boxes the image(operating system) is stored in a flash memory and the circuitry does not allow for uploads via the cable.This flash memory can only be changed by directly flashing the chip.

They are most likely trying to do something to stop the boxes and the most possible contenders are (1) a downgrading of the signal (thats when you get the tv1 , tv2 etc when scanning (2) Change from Nagravision ( which would need a card change) (3) Automated key code changes to fast for the current algorithms on the current images to handle ie say every minute (4) they could be gathering information from the return path on their boxes to map illegal box usage..

So the boys and girls are right this rumor has been around before but as the saying goes a good thing doesn't last forever and what can be broken can be fixed.

I have just recieved a phonecall about this aswell, who heard it from someone else.

I am new to this, but I cant figure out if it is possable to send a virus through a TV cable.

so does anyone who does not have "newbie" under their username believe this, or have ye heard it all before?

 

I got it straight from ther horse's mouth so it you'd best be advised and unplug for the next hour 9pm- 10pm, there are snitches in NTL who have mates who use the boxes and they tell their mate and its spreads my source works for ntl he has no reason to lie

 

I don't have newbie under my name but this rumour has certainly done the rounds.Got calls today from Dublin airport to Dun Laoghaire,oh first call came last night when they were supposed to be fried.This will last a few days before it naturally expires but whoever started it it certainly has gone around more than the usual one.I personally am watching my box now and intend doing so for the evening.

 

its amazing how some ones friend heard it from some ones cousin who's uncles friend works with somes ones brother who works in a CC.

I don't have a box to turn off.

 

10pm my box is still working.In fact I am leaving it on all night,not just on standby.I'll report in the morning if its still working.

 

mine and all my familys and friends are all on and will not be turned off so if they die they die let it be

 

all mine and everybody i know are still on aswell
