TURN OFF BOXES TONITE VIRUS GOING AROUND

I agree.I find the addicts here always helpful.They are under no obligation to help anyone.For the record I left my box switched on all night and it will be left that way for the weekend.

 

i agree , fair play to all the addicts for all their help , ive been monitoring this forum for the past 6 months or so and all their advice has been spot on.

They know what they are talkin about !

I left all my boxes on last night and if they go they go, it cant last forever so enjoy it whille it lasts .

 

hey lads, apart from all this virus crap, everytime i use epg on my sv2, the screenn sometimes goes green, turns itself off and then back on to the chanel i was watchin!!!
Wots that all about? can i do anything to stop it from happening? all my mates have sv2, we got them 2gether b4 xmas and they hav the same problem, its just a pain in the arse!!!
(only joined last nite so may hav missed the solution to this problem, sorry!!)

 

It's a glitch in the firmware, you could try re-flashing it again to see if that stops it,it happens to me too it's a common fault nothing major as you said it's just annoying.

 

Hi guys got the same rumour last night at 20.30 hrs.N*l were going to blow the boxs at 21.00 hrs and leave box off till Monday.................So switched off the box any news yet ??? Or will i have to go down to the pub till Monday lol.............with anticapation of your replies................splint83..........and thanks

 

if your on 4.50 firmware is a known issue, you can upgrade to 4.54 to fix it

hey lads, is it easy to update r flash these boxes?
i hav cables and a disc so will it b as easy as installing software on a pc/laptop?

 

Thanks for getting back to me.Tried it that way aswell Celtic71 but program info is still 1 hr ahead.My system s/w and h/w is from jan 25 '07. I haven't bothered upgrading it til now as it's worked fine til the other night. If i downloaded the latest and greatest that's relevant to the 07 model do you think that'll make a difference.
It's pretty headwrecking as u don't realise how much you actually look at the epg menu until it goes belly up.

 

Yea it's fairly easy to do,follow the instructions below and you should have no problems.

1. Plug Star***w in at the mains;and put on stand by

2. Plug in null modem cable and join up box with
PC using COM port on PC (there is only one socket for
this on the Starview you cant go wrong);

3. Open up GTRom loader this will be the soft ware on the cd

4. Click on "BIN File" on GTRom and load the
Auto update BIN File file that you have.

5. Now click download button and you sill se the
file being downloaded.

6. Once complete a mssage will apppears saying
something like "download successful".(you must wait till youir pc says this it about 20 seconds atfer it says 100%))


7, plug box in and press Menu on
remote, installation, choose your cable provider,
then move don to automatic scan and press ok.

8. Once all channels have been found press exit back to TV screen.

9. Press the menu button on the remote and enter 1570 and check that Key EMU is on then exit out of the menu completely and you're done.

 

Thanks to all for there correct information in relation to the NAR virus. I got the call last night to turn off the box however I checked this site and left the box on and as advised the box is still working. Thanks to all.

 

This is the first I've heard of this, but I've heard different so this must be bull.

I got a phone call from one of my best mate a few minutes ago who is a builder and personnally knows NT* techs ect...

My mate has a box and so do I and lots of my other mates too

He told me he met a mate of his onsite today that works for NT* and he said a different story. He said NT* have "equiptment" that can detect if u have a box and will be driving around estates at random and if it picks up u have a box they will cut off your pipe/cabe.

He advised my mate to disconnect his box til Monday night.

My mate rang me to warn me, but this has to be bull right ?

I hav 2 say reading through all the threads, there's a lot of madness circulating about this "virus", my guy in the uk tells me that its highly unlikely N*L would even consider this action and even if N*L did change software to nag2, it wouldn't b the end of the world, just a little matter of sending new s/w to sv boxes.
So all in all, i say , lets rock on and deal with REAL issues if and when they happen!!!

 

Can the mods close this thread as well this is going from the sublime to the ridiculous.

 

No he's right and next we will be getting phone calls from aliens saying there on there was to earth to beem us up.

I wish people would leave these technical matters to qualified people like engineers and programmers .
Instead of relying on builders,neighbours,guy in uk ,blah blah .
These boxes obey the laws of electronics ,there is no black magic involved.

 

this rurmour really caught fire last night, I was working so couldn't even log on to see if as I suspected it was all bull, as someone rightly said if it can be broken it can be fixed,so why panic, the senior members on here that give advice are fantastic and even in the unlikely event of n*l knocking us off these lads will find the remedy in little or no time rest assured. fergusb, celtic71 etc. keep up the good work
