Question... before dropping in a dashboard... does the console need a modchip or would i be good to go with the factory hardware... reason I ask is most steps i have looked at refer to mods having been pt in which i have not done... just thought I'd ask before I freeze my console

    @ redmunky

I think thats the problem, there are only 3 parts to your xbox IP.

Also for the people talking about doing it, you have to have a modded xbox (or soft mod) a normal xbox WONT work, orignal settings are to disable for network conncetions so you wont get no where if you dont have a mod chip or soft mod in your box.

***Several responses to post are here, I tried, please scroll for your name.

*First troubleshoot; maybe it's a typo but your IP for the xbox is missing a digit.
*XBOX user name and password (default) un: xbox pw: xbox; if you're using Xecuter 3 it might be un: X3, un: X3.

Don't be consumed with your internet connection; It has no part in you making a successful connection or not via a local FTP attempt

You have to give us a little more info. A common mistake people make when trying to FTP via direct connection is forget to assign Static IPs. Both the LAN connection being plugged into on the PC and the XBOX need to have Static IP addresses. Check that. If you don't know how to assign a Static IP go to this link: http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm

Just select your Operating System and follow the guide. Once an IP is setup for your PC, use those settings where needed to setup one for your XBOX. Everything should be the same; Subnet, Gateway, and both DNS Servers. Of course, both IPs should be different or there will be a conflict.

NOTE: THe DNS addresses are not necessary simply because they are for accessing the web and that is not needed for a local FTP attempt. Although, having doesn't hurt anything and saves you setup time in the future ;)

I don't think it has a way to setup sites like some FTP Clients (i.e. FlashFXP). I looked through the sites Flash tutorials but saw nothing. I may have missed it but you may have to switch programs. You may like FlashFXP's setup a little better anyway. It most definitely has a Site Manager which I'm sure you know is convenient when you frequently access many sites.

For this particular tutorial I used a PCTV USB adapter (by Pinnacle) on my laptop. It displays my xbox (live) on my laptop screen and I took screenshots of each step, saved them as images, posted them on the web, and linked them here.

You have to give more info that that. Confused about what exactly?? The more you tell, the better we can help.

Your post was not an FTP question but for a dashboard to be installed a minimum of a softmod must be done to a system.

    [bold]@impost3r[/bold]

You've got to give more information. Why type of FTP connection are you trying to accomplish? Your settings? Is it Direct or via a network? Any and everything about your setup so that someone could try to help.

    @Korrosion

Does the port on the PC/Laptop have a static IP assigned to it? The on that you're using for the port to port connection.

What about the XBOX...Did you assign it a static IP? If not, you won't get a connection.

Assign them both static IP's, restart and then give it a go. All should be fine.

What are your network settings for both your XBOX and PC.

I only need the setting for the LAN connection that the XOBX is plugging into on your PC...if you only have one then that's fine.

    hi all,

i just got my xbox chipped and i am having trouble doing this ftp thing. when i connect my xbox to the computer via crossover cable, it say 'limited connectivity or no connectivity'. is this the network's problem or the xbox?

    thanx

    O.k.
The easiest way I can explain it is this:

Think of your Gateway as the starting point for your IP range.
For example, my Gateway in my setup (router) is 192.168.1.1
My PC's Static IP is 192.168.1.100
    2nd PC: 192.168.1.110
    3RD pc: 192.168.1.120
    XBOX: 192.168.1.200

Now as you can see the first three number sets are identical throughout, in sync with the routers Gateway. Easy right.

Now for you...use the same technique.
    Your Gateway is 192.168.0.1
    So make your PC 192.168.0.10
    and your PC...192.168.0.20

No it doesn't have to be .10 or .20...it's just an example.

Make sure that if you have dual LAN capability on your PC or you are using a different LAN connection (NIc card) added to your PC that it is that connection on your PC which has been made static. The one that connects you to the internet is irrelevant...only the one connecting directly to your XBOX.

    I hope that helps.

My guess is that 9.9 times out of 10 you don't have static IPs assigned to both your PC connection being directly connected to your XBOX and/or the XBOX itself does not a static ip assigned to it.

Follow the steps I gave a few posts up for that process and you should be fine.
