    NEED HELP!!

I have a few problems with the MD PRO since i got it about a week ago. First of all everytime I start up the Max Drive Pro software the gamecube doesn't read the memorycard correctly and i have to put it in about 10 times before my cube reads it.

    I use
    Traxdata g04 DVD-r 8mm dvd's
BenQ 1610 drive with latest firmware
    Pal gamecube

I burned a few games all Pal:
Fifa 2006, Nba street V3, Tales of Symphonia, monkey ball 2

Nba street didn't work from the start. Gcos recognises the game but when I start it up the screen turns black and nothing happens. Tales of symphonia worked fine in the beginning but now has the same problem as Nba street and doesn't work anymore.
Monkey ball 2 worked but now when i start it after 10 seconds i get teh error "Refer to instruction manual, etc".
And with fifa i have that problem sometime as wel but sometime it works fine.

Anybody an idea of what may cause all the problems I have? Is it my burner or the dvd's i use? or is something wrong with my MD PRO?
    I hope i get response.

Hey. Thanks for the very nice guide!

Im wondering; how big is the chance that i'll have to adjust the laser in order to get it to work?
    Thx alrdy.

    murru: its either

    a. you need to adjust your laser.
    b. you need to buy different dvd-r's.
    c. you are burning it wrong.

also everyone has problems with the memory card. its cheaply made, but its the only thing out there. id say its probably your laser that needs to be adjusted. its not that hard to do, but be careful.

    Rallern:

with newer gamecubes, its not as likely that you will hvea to adjust your laser. if you have one that is about 3 years old or older, you will more than like have to adjust it. but the adjusting is not hard to do at all. i adjusted my laser, and all my back ups work fine, plus all the games load faster. so in the end it is def worth it to adjust your laser. i recommend people adjust their laser every month. it should help keep the life of your laser even longer.

Is it possible to test if the laser is how its supposed to be without buying the memory card and cds and without having a potmeter? I mean just by listening to the drive if its spinning right or smt like that? Any suggestions?

not really, the only way to test it is to open it up, and check the ohm's level.

    TNX msickler!

Which Mini-DVD's always work on every gamecube with good potted laser? I'm using Traxdata's with ritek g04 mediacode. But are the Ritek Ridata g04 better?

Yes you have a pot, what you need is a multimeter.

Im not having any problems yet, but i'd rather just get the stuff now in case i ever do have a problem with the POT. Gamebits go for $6 shipped, which isnt bad at all.

What im wondering is if the quality of the multimeter matters. Ebay has em for $7 shipped, test leads and all. My guess is as long as it can read at 2000ohms it should be fine, right?

murru: i use the ritek ones. but i also got a new case for my cube so i can fit full sized dvd's in them, and im using memorex dvd-r's and they work great for me.

bezerker: you may want to get one that can read anywhere from 0-800 ohms or so. cause sometimes your pot is at 650 ohms.

Heres a pic of the multimeter for $7. I know my technical stuff, but nothing in the means of electricity. The only AC/DC i know about is a rock band :p. I'm guessing ohm's are represented by the Omega sign near the bottom?

I just want to thank you for a great guide. i got my gamecube the day it came out.i have burned 12 games all work fine. I took the gcos on my max pro card and put it on a regular memory card. I put my regular memory card with the gcos in slot b by it's self. I run the max pro disk with the one memory card up to the choose region screen then i put in a regular memory card with just game saves in in slot A. I use ritek mini dvd's and burn with a light-on dvd burner using nero 6 burn speed 4x. You must make sure to finalize disk or you will get disk read errors. I know there is a lot of problems out there and i just wanted to share my thoughts on this to maybe help someone.

Wondering if anyone knows how you can use the Max Drive Pro memory card to play emulators/roms on your gamecube. Do you just download the program and put it on the card? Anyone whose had luck doing this please let me know.
