yea to put it simply, you need either a broadband adaptor or a Viper GC Extreme mod chip. Without one of these things, ripping gamecube games is not possible.

I can confirm that my method works.

I messed up in my first description, the "Backup Game" option is under the "Tools" menu.

Also, since you have to setup the network to be able to connect to the GC, here are working options (if they dont work, try disabling all other networks on your comp)

Network Connections -> (create a new connection, or go into the properties of an existing one) -> Highlight "Internet Protocol TCP/IP" -> hit the Properties button, then enter the following:

    Use The Following IP address:
    IP - 192.168.1.31
    Subnet - 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway - 192.168.1.1

Use The Following DNS server address:
    192.168.1.1

AFter all that is setup you should be able to go into Internet explorer (works in firefox sometimes, but i never have any problems with IE.). Type in 192.168.1.32/backup.iso and a notice will popup asking if you want to open the file or save (obviously choose save), then you can name it to whatever you want, hit save, and the backup will start immedately (takes 52-55 minutes to make a full backup).

Yes, you need the broadband modem. All you do is plug it into the bottom of the GC, then run a networking or crossover cable from your GC to your PC (assuming you have an ethernet connection - not a phone modem, cable/dsl/etc).

Rhino Games sells the modem for $12.99, Target for $9, and Gamestop/EB for $2.99

I just got the card and it works great. Although it has trouble booting PAL games. I tried forcing NTSC and it booted but then crashed. I tried letting GCOS automatically detect the region (my TV is NTSC/PAL compatible) and it crashed.
Also, the card is sometimes not detected or gives an error telling me to reinsert the card when I power up.
So apparently the card is great and easy to use with NTSC games, although there are occasional errors when you first power up and it currently does not work with PAL games.
Anyone had better luck with PAL?
Anyone else have the occasional card not detected error?

is there a difference in the broadband adapter and modem?
can anyone direct me to the necessary utility files to backup my originals through the Max Drive Pro method of playing backups such as the GCOS tool?
    any help would be appreciated.

    new to the scene,

Yes there is a difference in the broadband adaptor and modem. You need the broadband adaptor as the modem will not work for backup.

The broadband adapter is also known as a modem.

Theres a link to GCOS in the tutorial:

    http://www.dlxserver.com/gcos1.5.rar

You gotta copy & paste it into your address bar, it wont work if you click the link.

This might be a stupid question but why not load the GCos dol in via PSO and then swap a disc. I assume its not possible but did anyone try?

Im planning to buy the max drive pro also after reading this topic, great job on finding all this out! :)

    Thanks for answering my question.
