Tutorial: Softmodding an Xbox + FTP & Files

This is the first step to softmodding your xbox. After completing these steps, then you can put the Yelo trainer on your xbox and use it.

 

sorry but i have to add on 007 agent under fire you have to let the game load, start a new game and when it starts to where you can move your player, then press start and load saved game otherwise it just freezes.

 

That may have been the case, but I've modded over 50 xboxs...and I've never had to do it that way before.

What I have in my tutorial is exactly how I do mine.

 

maybe it is just the platinum hits but thats how i seen it done on a video and thats how i have done all mine but they also say you cant do it with platinum hits i dont mean to correct you just to help others who may reach that problem, also i would like to add Ndures softmod (found in the usual spots) has a dual boot like a real mod, power button on= mod reset button on= stock which can boot xbox live which i have used and not been banned, but if you mod on live you will get your name banned and possible your eeprom.

one thing i did might be the hard way but instead of action replay, i wired and xbox controller to my computer to transfer the game save to the memory card, and if you have a router you dont need a crossover cable to use ftp into the xbox as a usual ethernet cable will do. crossover cables are only for direct pc to xbox connections.

 

This is true, very true. However, I've heard several complaints that when using a router, the transfer rates are far too slow, or that it scrambles the internet; that's the only reason I'm using a PC to Xbox connection.

And yeah, I've heard of the mods where starting your xbox with the eject button will turn off the soft-mod, and turning it on with the power button will turn on the soft-mod; but I've never been able to find a working one...

i actually found a tutorial on how to make it live compatible here which says you can actually make xbox live gamer tags also, when i did it i had to have the gamer tag saved onto the hd or swap it from another xbox

Yes, it can be live compatible. But, if you don't have a live account, that does you no good. As for getting on it, you need to hook it up into a router, then you may need to unblock some ports. You need to make sure it has the right cables and everything.

It was much easier setting my xbox up to XBC then it was XBL. However, I wish to set it up so that I could connect with Xia Link, but for some reason, when I run the program on my computer, it loads the splash screen, but doesn't progress. I've asked many people, and have gotten no response, so I just gave up.

Besides, even to get the new maps, it cost $4 in addition to the xbox live account!

XBC is also known as Xbox Connect. It's basically like Xbox Live, but it's free.

I guess if you have an XBL account and $4, then why'd you ask me?

XBConnect is awesome although i prefer XLink Kai which can be used with Xbox Media Center which is nice.
