    http://www.virtualdub.org

There you'll find VirtualDub, what looks like a great program all around, though I've just started to mess with it, and it seems to have a bit of a learning curve.

At http://www.virtualdub.net you'll find a mod that has a built in scheduler with it. The site is German, but just click the first link for the app.

Other proggies that you might like are Virtual VCR and AVI_io, though I forget the links, you should be able to find them pretty easily with google.

Hope that moves you in the right direction. For lots of scattered and brain-numbing advice for VirtDub go to www.doom9.org. I've been trying to wade through all the info for a couple days now, and I'm still pretty lost to most of the advanced settings, but I've pretty much got simple capture and conversion to (much smaller) divx files down.

Here's a bit simpler tut on how to set up VirtDub: http://arstechnica.com/guides/tweaks/vidcap.ars/1
It's written using a Hauppage (sp?) tv-tuner card, but most of it applies to whatever hardware you've got.
