    @creaky ,

theres no point in the installation that i reach the coloured bar i know which bar you are on about ,

keep getting as far as use windows partition space , erase disk fully, custom partition ,

i went to custom partition , sorted it all but it goes no further , just back to the same page , so if i do it again it creates duplicates and wastes space , still trying to delete it hdd showing up as 67.1gb instead of 73.9 ,

    im totally baffled this time

that's strange. i get to the colourful bar stage, then i click on the bar, and manually add a filesystem, then it prompts you to to the other filesystems, etc....then it should ask you which ones you want to format

    hey....

    If it's not to late..

Just wanna say that I got the ati driver to work on my hp pavilion zv6000
All you need is to use aptitute search flgrx and install it.
After that edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf from ATI to flgrx thats all...
On a 32 bit... My friend tried on a 64 bit ubuntu and it din't work for him there...

    "Ubuntu is a great linux"

You are stupid, Ubuntu is the worst linux out there, unless you a linux newb, and im guessing you are, but if you want to be able to tweak the kernal and have complete control over your linux and run a server fodera core 4 is the best open soure out there right now.
So go download some wallpapers with your "ubuntu" and ill be right here on my fodera hosting my website and ftp + having control over my other server

@U7Hacker - there's enough of this crap in google groups. ie some Linux ppl who can't be civil if someone dares disagree with their opinion or have an opinion that doesn't fit with theirs. Around here however it won't be tolerated, hence these are 'moderated' forums.

Any more stupid comments and you'll be back on your own site as you won't be on this one. comprendez ?

I had no problems with ubuntu....it's not a bad distro. I wouldn't say that it gives you alot of options, but if you want to run a simple desktop,(which alot of people do) it's a pretty good *nix for the job.

As far as the server talk...I really wouldn't see anyone running one on a ubuntu machine,it's more of a front end OS.

I really did like the fedora core 3 and 4 distros, they had alot to give with the 'out of the box' unstall. It was one of the easiest installs I've had to do. Alot of people talk about it being 'bloated' with too much, but if you don't want certain packages, don't install them from the start. Simple right?

Only problem I had with fedora is that it didn't like my Ati card.

I have a HP ZV6000. I want to start my learnig journey on linux. I already set=up a dual-boot on it. I load FC-4 before, now trying SUSE 10.

My question, because I don't know where to look, is there any distro that will load the WIFI for this laptop. I been want to start working on *nix with it, but not having wireless support it makes thing hard on me.

ANy help will be gladly accepted.

    Thank you

Mandriva 2006 supports wifi as far as i know (as my laptop has wifi built-in and it's detected on install) however i've not actually used the wifi as i only have a normal wired router at the moment

he is just asking that you portray your opinion in a less IN YOUR FACE kind of way...
i am sure creaky is not trying to deprive you of your opinions so lets just take it down a notch.

@U7Hacker - it's real simple, this Forum has a few rules. Now drop it down a notch and quit the attitude if you don't mind.

Opinions are fine but attitude isn't. Period.

    I am sold...
I have spent this week attempting to get ubuntu on my system (zv6000) with no luck at all. After what has been said I am downloading Mandriva right now and seeing if I can get a working install.
