well done mate on that speech but as Nagra 3 has not been cracked in 3 yrs do you honestly think that because cable is gone N3 that they are suddently going to hack it the satalite scene is a much much bigger scene and if it has not been cracked on that there is little hope they will do it because cable has suddently gone there now.

And do you think if they ever do that they will fix all the old boxes if you do you and the rest of the cable community are going to be very sadly disapointed they will never and i mean this fully NEVER in your wildest dreams make any fixes for any of the boxes that are on the market now they are problem delighted this happened as this will make them lots and lots more money if they made a file what would that make them actually nothing so you get my drift new encryption ===== new boxes ====== lots more money to be made

I would agree e45. It was a great speech but says nothing new. All this would have been known by reading other threads here. Then an opinion of the poster at the end.

tend to agree, Sat has been kicking and biting at N3 for years, just because cable has succumbed in ire and the uk, which is a small drop in the greater scheme of things, that they will step up a gear or breath new life into old boxs, its all about money at the end of the day, think its cable lan boxs and sat CS for the future and the continuing cat and mouse game. We would be very nieve to think N4 or worse is not being developed at present to combat and future proof content. IPTV is another prob looking on the horizon to............

N3 was only the start of the cat and mouse game they will never leave it at that they are now going to stay one step ahead now of the cable boxes thats for sure they are not going to let it go back to the way it was years ago that the cable boxes ran the cable network them days are well and truly gone.

And if N3 does get hacked as has been said they will just move up and up they are well getting the subs in now to pay for it and they know they will once they keep a lid on the boxes

I'll admit, I do not profess to be an expert in this field, but I do have significant experience in both hardware and software engineering, including cipher technology.

I agree, there will obviously be "opportunity" for additional revenue gained from people selling new hardware. My statement though I believe still rings true. If Nagra 3 can be activated on the cable companies set-top boxes without the need for a hardware upgrade/change then it is entirely possible for the same to be said of existing un-official boxes, at least technically anyway.

Happy to be told/proven otherwise, but are there not set-top boxes that were in use with Nagra 1 being used with the current Version of encryption?

...and yet 24 hours after official release, windows 7 authentication was hacked and posted online. If a mega corporation like MS, with its billions of dollars in R&D cannot keep ahead of the game, i dont really think anyone else will. Its a nice idea, just impractical and ultimately not cost effective.

There were also some official boxes needed replacing to implement the change. The memory needed is more than what is available on the SV1, 2, 3 and eurovox maxv's and others in my opinion. The dreambox should though if anyone ever works out the algorithms etc.

Thats completely different mate as that is programming. There were patches and activators out for that OS before it was even 'Officially released'. That is mostly opensource if you know programming. This is a closed source encryption method. Two totally and completely different things.

And also all of the Starview eurovox digivox are all closed source boxes so there is going to be nobody to fix them and the manufacturers are not going to so unless the linux crew fix thers which is not likly unless the sat scene fix theres first they will aslo be dead in the water as all fixes come from the sat scene first and recompiled to work on them after

I have to disagree with the sentiment if not exactly the statement. It maybe closed source( and I guess by that you mean proprietry), however so is the majority of MS kernel code, especially those areas associated with authentication. Reverse Engineering is used in both instances to understand the code to circumvent protection.

Its actually semantics, but it is unlawfull to create a cipher for use in the public domain that is "unhackable", and has been since the early days of PGP. Funnily enough, governments got twitchy at the thought of an unbreakable code being used in commercial application.

I really dont want to get dragged into debate on this so I'll make this my last post on the matter. I just wanted to give some words to a subject that seemed to be dogged with confusion and conjecture.

Are you being serious? A company such as Kudelski SA is not in the business of creating an encryption method that they have to give out the code and methods to anyone because 'they are not allowed to create an encryption that is unhackable!' That is ridiculous mate.

It means the stream is present so when they are sure everyone has received the new cards they are sending out you will start to lose channels. Soon.
