I can vouch for the fact it makes a really high tech doorstop!

One thing ive never tried is to use the aerial input of the Starview Usb - I wonder if it picks up Freeview as the cable input does? After all it is sold originally as a freeview receiver - My father lives in an area without cable so he might be able to use it - just a thought for those with a doorstop!

    E45 hooter Mickah?

wont work mate, its a cable box with a cable tuner, not a freeview tuner or to pick up FTA chans (non cable), It is designed to pick up FTA (non Encrypted cable) chans only, basically its a doorstop and for the bin

So why does it include a standard rf aerial connector labelled "ANT IN" (Antenna IN) as well as TV Out output to a tv standard rf input? This is in addition to the cable connectors in/out.

Im talking about the SV 4 Usb.

I know its a cable box but always wondered why they included standard rf connectors - might open it up and see if they are actually connected but its still useful as a pvr for the channels i have left.

Had a word with a pal and he says you connect the cable out to the ant in and then the ant out to another tv so you can basically have more than one tv connected to the box so its actually for multiroom setup.

Never buy grade B factory repack whatever they call it - I used to work for J** , im an electronics engineer and systems programmer by trade and i could tell you a few horror stories - worst tvs in the world. Resoldered motherboards and replaced uprated chips etc not worth the hassle. The monkeys on the production line were so badly paid and treated by the jap management that they used to stick coke cans in the electrodes at the back of the tv and our shipping manager was done for selling tvs off the back of a lorry - he even had them delivered to the customers houses and he had been doing it for 10 years before getting caught and no-one wondered why he lived in a 500 grand house either. duh
    Well done George!!!

Kryptview is the only choice but im waiting a while until we see what Virgins anti piracy next move is going to be - seems they are going after the servers and launching new "traffic shaping" appliances to track the IP traffic.

Depends on how much they want to pursue the lost revenue!

@ omendata, your mate is correct its for connecting to other TVs to send the signal onwards, but they are cable boxs and only work with cable signals, not aerials etc

And its also illigal for them to monitor what you are doing as its invading your privacy lets see what would happen if they brought that to court oh yes sorry your honour we where invading his privace to see what he was doing and we found this lol

Little boy with the wooden spoon eh!

Certainly not I used to work for N** long time ago and have a few mates there.
True what you say but Lawyers . politicians and other assorted pondlife are trying all the time to get people shafted - just look at that mob of scumbags down south sending letters out demanding £500 a time from people who "allegedly" downloaded a certain movie. If they can do it with that then who knows. And then there is the CS Starview server that was taken down recently they went in mobhanded.

I was never bothered before but from what Ive heard it could be getting more risky with CS for sure as there was very little they could do with the Sv and other boxes but with it going CS there is more to monitor and rather than send a guy out to your local Dslam or setup a monitor on the Green box they can now sit back in the Network control centre and plug and play those deep packet inspection engines - used to be Cisco when I was there but i think they have moved to another supplier!

Just a thought thats all its wise to be cautious thats why im holding off on an A780 for the moment. Life without the Scifi, documentary and horror channels is hard I must admit!
    FTA just doesnt cut it!
    lol
