Underclocking

    Probably because it was also a bad brand. it does the job now, but for how long? The number of PCs that I know have damaged or destroyed by bad PSUs is at least in the dozens, if not nearing a hundred.

    Wow i would of never thought a bad psu could result in bad computer performance so i never look into it.i have a 400w startech laying around
    ill try that and see hopefully itll work better

    it's certainly possible, but even if it isn't the cause of the problem I'd suggest you replace it anwyay as your PC is at risk as long as it is powering the system. None of the brands you have listed are any good, so in the long term I suggest you buy a proper PSU like a Corsair CX.

    Newegg.ca has the same cpu for 20 dollars more.

    That's because that's in canadian dollars, not US dollars.

    At current exchange rates, 229.99 USD = 261.20 CAD (so aside from it being in the correct country, he's saving money)

    Well, the currency values are all over the place at the moment, so that's hardly surprising.
