Unlock an djailbreak iPhone 16GB 3G recently upgraded to 3.1.2 and now locked!

hi there,

i have a 3G iphone and had it unlocked in Asia last year but never upgraded it as I knew I would lock it again. Yesterday I decided to try and upgrade+unlock it myself and since, it's totally locked!
I plugged it into itunes, new version 9.0, and upgraded it to 3.1.2 firmware.
I then purchased (stupidly) a programme to unlock it -redsnOw - but clearly this was for previous firmwares as it doesn't work at all, I have the itunes / USB / slide for emergency message.
I assume I should downgrade to 3.0 but I can't even do that as it's locked and itunes won't recognise the SIMcard anymore...

what can I do? I am very new to this so the more detailed info you can give me, the better....m,any many thanks, I am super desperate!

easiest fix is blackra1n just google it... Its free and a one click jailbreak. After you install that your going to have to run blacksn0w comes with blackra1n.
