I have a Nokia 6102i, S/N 352735019840110. Provider is Cingular in the US. I would like to use the phone in Australia, with the original SIM card, as it connects to the system fine. It won't make or receive calls. If I cannot use the orginal SIM card, I would purchase a local SIM card, then reinstall the original for the US. Will this void my warranty, or contract with Cingular? Can I relock the phone before I return to the US, and be OK? Thanks in advance.
#pw+247855364570667+1# Best to buy a pre-paid sim over seas. Unlocking won't void any warranties so no need for re-locking.
nokias, Thanks. If I unlock, will my original SIM card allow me to connect to the Australian system? Will unlocking void my contract with Cingular in any way, and will they be able to tell once I return to the US? Or don't I need to worry about unlocking? I emailed them but have not had a response yet.
Nothing will be voided. Don't let Cingular sell you on an International plan, it will cost a fortune. Buy a prepaid sim and pop it it in. Make sure it is a network that uses 1800 MHz and not 900 MHz (6102i is a tri-band 850/1800/1900 MHz.
