    but what if u dont have a plug to plug in...do u leave the sim car in while doing it

    I don't think you can reset the lock without a cable and software. I might be wrong.

    Your other option is to take it to a market stall where a seller offers phone unlocking as they have the necessary hardware to do it too.

    For the last few months I have tried to get the unlock code for a Sony Ericsson K800i. It's 2 years old, but requesting the unlock code at KPN fails every time.

    Can anyone pls help me?

    Bubbles, thx for your quick reply. But what I need is a NCK code that you can enter on the K800i. I think this is the normal way to unlock when your provider supplies you the NCK code.

    When I move around the joystick a bit as described below, the K800i displays sth like: Enter NCK: So now I need to enter the (16 digit) unlock code.

    See below:

    1. For the unlocking of a locked Sony Ericsson no sim card is required.
    2. Turn on the handset. Display will indicate “Insert SIM.”
    3. Press the left Arrow (<) button.
    4. Press the star (*) button twice.
    5. Press the left Arrow (<) button again.
    6. You will briefly see one of the following messages listed on devices display: “Personalized with MNC2” or “Personalized with MNC3”.
    7. Wait approximately three seconds.
    8. The display will indicate “Network” and a picture of a closed lock.
    9. Press Select.
    10. The display will indicate “Unlock (Net) 5” and “NCK:”
    11. Enter the 16 digit NLCK4U code (unlock code we provided you) and press okay.
    12. The handset will display “Network unlocked” and the display “Insert SIM” appears.
    13. The handset is successfully unlocked.

    Oh I see. I haven't come across anyone who can supply NCK codes without cost which is what I assume you're after. (If you're happy to pay I think all the network operators will happily supply a code for you.)

    If you do find a way to work out the code yourself, do let me know!

    Thx, I have contacted KPN about this and they regret that it doesn't always work to request the unlock code. Alternative is to visit a shop, because there they can unlock a phone. Obviously, some cost is involved (about 10 euro).

    I think the unlock codes for mobile phones that are older than 1 year should be made available centrally, so that you can always request your code regardless of your provider. Unfortunately, providers don't care that fully functional phones remain in a dark closet and are never used again....
