I t seems to be the 6230b models that you need to keep your valid sim card inserted, look under the battery to find out your model number. If you have already used your 5 attempts you will need to get your phone unlocked with a cable, if you still have a few goes left try code 7 fist. Check out previous posts on how to input the codes

I wanted to provide some instructions to people who are unaware with unlocking Nokia 6230b GSM phones locked by Cingular USA:

1) You need to have a cingular sim card in the phone.
2) Then all you need to do is enter the code (try 7th first).
3) if the code works then at the end of entry, the phone screen will say "Phone restrictions off".
4) Congratulations, U have saved ur soul from corporate blood sucking.

Thanks berty642 and Adonis20. I had no problem unlocking my Nokia 6230b. I used code 7 with the SIM card inserted. For all Cingular 6230b phones, remember to insert your SIM card first before entering the codes.
