Hi, I have a 2g phone that I had previously unlocked (on 2.01 version). I was looking to upgrade to 3.0, so I followed instructions, downloaded redsnow (zip file) with IPSW and 2 BL files, and following all instructions, I ended up with the message 'jailbreak data download' on my iphone, for a very long time and nothing happened. Before running redsnow, I was told to restore my iphone, which I did, which was probably the biggest mistake. Now itunes doesn't recognize my SIM card, and my phone is locked (slide for emergency message). I tried the process again and I still get the same message,'jailbreak data download'which stays on for a long time... Could anyone please let me know what I did wrong, and if there is a way to correct what I did. Thanks!!
Well you shouldn't have restored it, that's for one thing. Within the iphone section of that wiki is a guide for jailbreaking also. I will be making one for 3.1 soon, but you can look at those guides.
A bit confused here. This is from your guide: "Select your iphone, hold down shift, and then click on the restore button." I better explain. I want to go from 2.2.1(original 2G iphone - /Jailbroken and Unlocked with Quickpwn) up to the 3 O/S. If I understand this correctly I must use redsnow to get the ver 3FW on and jailbreak it then use "ultrasnow" to unlock it. However the guide for using redsnow does say that I must restore the iphone. Can you clarify this. I am using WinXP on my PC to do this.
yeah, that was my fault. Best way is to go ahead and jailbreak it to a 3.0 or 3.0.1 Or lookup how to do a 3.1 jailbreak (but make sure you preserve the baseband from 3.0.1). You will probably need to do a shift restore to load on the hacked firmware. Or I needed to put mine in dfu mode before I could. but yes, you did understand the guide.
