    In obituary notices (until the 1920's) it was customary to list the deceased hat size.

    The earliest versions of Ecuador's flag had aWestinghouse icebox as it's centre motif.

    When the potato was first grown in Ireland it was mistakenly assumed that it was meant to shredded and smoked in clay pipes.

    The postage stamp purportedly issued by Australia is now assumed to be a hoax.
