My physical RAM is a bit over 1G, available is about 65M. My virtual max is 790, my max is set around 700, but actual usage is around 550(according to Task Mgr).Does that help ?

I'm quite sure(at this point) that my machine is the prob, and not Malware or Virus...soo...If my thread needs to be moved to a diff forum, please do soo. Thanks

something is chewing up your ram if you only have 65meg available out of a gig. should have at least 400megs+ of ram available.

    rbrock,
I just reformatted this abomination. If I have to reformat every other week, I'll just throw this thing into Lake Erie and buy a new one. LOL! Hey, if it's beyond repar, thats OK. I tried to fix it,(thanks 4 all the help) but it's pretty old,soo...if it's time...it's time. I'm still open to any suggestions.

Sounds like outdated virus protection or its running or you have two virus programs running at the same time there must be something scanning your drive at start up all you program updates are starting and trying to get on the net at the same time while scanning

ddp, sorry for the slow reply. I forgot to mention earlier, when I try to run "msconfig\startup" I get an error msg..."msconfig\startup cannot be found". Not sure why that is ...but, these are the 6 progs that run at startup.

    HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exe
    HKLM\..\Run: [HotKeysCmds] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe
    HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java\Java Update\jusched.exe"
    HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
    HKCU\..\Run: [SUPERAntiSpyware] E:\program files\SuperAntiSpy\SUPERANTISPYWARE.EXE
    HKLM\..\Run: [COMODO Internet Security] "E:\program files\ComodoAntivir\Comodo\COMODO
    Internet Security\cfp.exe" -h

Ps, When I mentioned earlier that my avail physical mem was 65M that was a typo, it's actually around 625M.

Good point, Superantispyware and Comodo Defense, essentially do the same job, and both are set to run at startup. I think I'll try switching Superantispyware off. Thanks.

OK, I guess I misunderstood. I see what you meant now, but I haven't changed anything on my startup menu since my last post. It's still the same 6 programs listed below.

    1. HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exe
    2. HKLM\..\Run: [HotKeysCmds] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe
    3. HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java\Java Update\jusched.exe"
    4. HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
    5. HKCU\..\Run: [SUPERAntiSpyware] E:\program files\SuperAntiSpy\SUPERANTISPYWARE.EXE
    6. HKLM\..\Run: [COMODO Internet Security] "E:\program files\ComodoAntivir\Comodo\COMODO
    Internet Security\cfp.exe" -h

I'm not sure what 1,2,& 4 actually do.

    rbrock,
thanks for the input. Last night I had a chance to tweek a few thins on my machine(mainly paging files), I tried turning off Superantispyware and SpywareBlaster, rebooted, and it definitely booted faster. But not like it did a few weeks ago.

So then I increased the amount of my virtual memory[origanally set around 470mb up'd to around 1500mb(seems after I maxed out my memory, Windows had not increased my virt mem, wich, I'm assuming is why I kept getting "low virt mem" msgs)] adjusted the min and max available paging file values to the same amount.

Then I made another folder to handle my increased paging files on a separate partition. Apparently this allows Windows to access the paging files located on the seperate partition, much faster than the paging files located on the same partition as the operating system(Windows xp sp3).

Hallelujah !!! As if by Divine Intervention !!! This old machine is flying faster than it ever has. It boots faster than ever and surfs faster than ever(and probably fragments faster then ever...lol !).

If this sounds familiar to any one, This info might help ... http://www.tweakhound.com/xp/xptweaks/supertweaks5.htm

    I do believe I'm cured.

So I guess this was never a Virus or Malware issue. Please move this post to a more relevant form if you guys think it might help anyone. Thanks for all you input.
