I doubt your system is underpowered, though if you list what's installed I'd have a better idea. The idea of installing the drive on another machine is valid and is often used as a diagnostic tool, but if you don't have a spare machine that's not much of an option. I'm glad your NEC is doing well and it should give you years of good burns.
