Error message 05, as listed here, suggests that you did not successfully lock your xbox HD. Try locking it again and see what happens.

Everything sounds right, those are the same steps I used to successfully upgrade 4 seperate xboxes now. I would suggest trying agian. If that doesn't work, contact the developer(s) of XboxHDM and see what they say.

Try building the iso again or another PC.

Try a few different setups in xbpartition on the xbox, my xbox is set up to get all the space just on my F without a need for a G drive.

is it at all possible to use a laptop.i doubt it but my laptop will boot from the disk while none of the three other pc's in my house will boot from the disc. i'v even chatted with the friendly techs at HP computers and they didn't know why it wouldn't boot to disc

if anyone knows of how i can get the pc to boot to disc or of another way to setup a new xbox hard drive pleeeaaassseee let meknow

Theoretically it's possible, tho not likely probable and would likely require the purchase of specialized hardware. Feel free to research it tho! Unsure why your PCs won't boot the disc. My only suggestion is to try again or contact the developer(s) to diagnose the problem.

a while ago i softmodded my xbox with no problems. but now think its about time i did the large Hdd mod too. so i got a drive, followed all the instructions as above, made the new drive copying all the c and e drives. when i start up the disc it loads into the old ms dash. (my old orig. drive loaded directly into evoX which i used as the dash). how come this one which has supposidy copied the old drive os loading into ms dash?

not being successful in finding a media that would allow evox to boot off cd i thought i'd modify my 'c' drive in the iso so that it had the evox as the default.xbe and evox.ini in the root copied from my old hdd (which had it in e:/dash/) this still does not work.

the drive is locked ok as i can still access music that was ripped onto the drive long before i modded the console.

the old hdd still works fine so i still have a workign softmodded box but really want the larger hdd in it. how do you set the default dash etc?

    anyone got any ideas?

this happened to me when i added a bigger hdd some weeks ago. you'll have to remod the xbox. It shouldn't be too hard now that you've done it before. Just redo it with Krayzie's NDure

This is not uncommon as EvoX uses a shadow C partition. Remod the xbox and all should be well.

    thanks for the replies.

i still have the cd i made to softmod it orginally (so no files in the c, e and eeprom drive folders). can that one be used, or do i have to use one that has the c and e drives copied from my current xbox 8gb softmodded hdd?

also after i do the hotswap (using the XboxHDM), i enter the VGA console (option 1), then type 'softmod', then choose option 2 (NK Patcher), wait for 15 mins or so then done. does this sound correct? it was a long time since i did it last!

    thanks again guys!

sorry for the double post but i'm having some serious issues trying to re-soft mod it! was getting all sorts of disc errors.

when you say soft mod it again, i understand that as the hotswap procedure, am i right?

I meant re soft mod the xbox, not use the boot disk on the hard drive in your computer.

I meant flash your bios using Krayzie's NDure. One of the Gamesave exploits.

Well i have got a little further - the problem was that when i was copying files from my c:\ on my xbox - all the files copies except for the .xbe - so therefore the xbox cant read a dashboard - hence the '13' error code - therefore how do i get the files to copy across? i tried just using a drag and drop through windows network places and also through flashfxp and cant get any joy :(

Help, I'm a newbie and followed the instructions here to a T. I am getting service error code 21 on the new hard drive. ST3160812A Seagate 160GB drive. I have not had any problems locking it. I ftp'd all of my C and E drives to the PC and searched for all eeprom.bin files. There were 3 and they all looked exactly the same when examinging the special characters in Notepad. I have also used Evox to backup the eeprom.bin and I have tried that one as well on my CD image to no avail. Anyone have any ideas where to look or what to try?

I am currently trying to Clone the old drive to the new drive to see if that makes any difference, but I am not certain the cloning it will give me the new larger partitions plus it seems to be taking forever.

Any help would be much appreciated. I was given this softmodded xbox as a gift, so don't know anything about how it was softmodded.

Might it be a requirement to softmod it again?

I've been reading this forumn for quite sometime and haven't found much for solutions around the Error 21. I apologize if I missed something simple.

    Thanks!
