Here's a few suggestions, try switching the HD to cable select or try disabling the RAID (option in BIOS and just use the main ide channels

I tried it using both cable select and master, and I tried using both the RAID and main IDE channels. No configuration I tried worked out.

Here's a few additional things I've found to try:

-Disable Auto Detection for the Primairy Master HD (also explained as setting IDE0/HDA to “NONE”)
    -Disable S.M.A.R.T. monitoring
-Unplug all USB devices (use a PS/2 connector for your keyboard)
-Make sure all networking cards have a connection (xboxhdm hangs on unplugged network cables)
-Remove any add-on cards if all the above doesn’t help

If all else fails, contact the developer(s) of XboxHDM and see what they have to say, they may be able to offer a suggestion I cannot.

There's an official XboxHDM thread on xbox-scene that may offer further advice or help.

I found that when I was going to unlock my new hdd, I had to boot my pc with just the dvd rom connected, until it had started to load the program, then connect my hard drive (had power connected but not the ide), then type option 1 or 3 or whatever, but that was because it was telling me my drive was frozen, anybody having this problem??

I still cannot get it to work. I disabled auto-detect, my keyboard is not USB to begin with, I have a feeling the problem is the IDE/RAID channels on my motherboard. I am going to take the HD to my mom's house on one of my days off and see if it'll work in her computer. Hopefully it does.

Just out of curiosity though, has anyone formatted a HD through FTP like in this article? does it work?

    I have this hdd

    http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16822148139

I have went through this process twice. Both times I end up with error 6. I'v overcame the security lock, I'v locked and unlocked the hdd. So i know it will lock.

the first time I got my eeprom through config magic. The second time I got the eeprom from UDATA, but no luck. Xbox can't unlock the drive. What can I do to fix this? I have about 5 hours, or more invested in reading, but can't seem to figure it out. I really believe my problem is with the eeprom, but can't seem to find the right one

It boots up to evox with the retail hdd. It's softmodded with shademans. I can FTP with smart and burn image. No problem locking with xboxhdm, but still error 6.

I'm doing this for a friend for free. I like a good challange but damn, this Is almost too much.

I'm gonna try one more time with config and rename "EEPROMBackup.bin" to "eeprom.bin", while I wait for a reply. this is gettin old quick

    Thanks

Ok, I've got to the point where the drive must be locked, and I ran into issues there.

When I select option 3, Linux begins to load, then I get
"ide-default: hdi: Failed to register the driver with ide.c
Kernel panic: ide: default attach failed"

I'm not proficient with Linux, so not quite sure what it means, but I assumed it ment something had gone wrong with my IDE drive. So, I disconnected the drive, just for the hell of it, and I got the same error again.

    Any help?

    No luck

I got the EEPROMBackup.bin from config magic, and renamed it eeprom.bin. I got through xboxhdm good, but when I tried to lock the drive it said "eeprom not found". That was a new one on me.

I originaly hot swapped, and softmodded, the retail hdd using this method. I used the shademan softmod.

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/332766

I'v done it about four times, no problem, but this is the first time I'v tried to put in a bigger hdd.

The first thing I did after hotswap, is to backup C and E to my PC hdd. My question is, what would be the most noob proof way of obtaining the right eeprom? Can I get it off the backup of the original some way?

Its gotta be something simple I'm missing

    Please help

    I'm goin in again

Ok, so I fixed the problem, sorta.

I robbed a floppy from an OLD box i got from gramps, and I hooked it up. I then made the floppy using my eeprom, and booted from the floppy.

The floppy locking worked, and then I put the drive in my xbox and it booted.

One little thing, I redid the formatting when it didn't work the first time, and forgot to copy the E:\ and F:\ drives over...

So it booted into the XBOX dashboard, but I just unlocked it, and am trying again, hopefully this time it works.

    Thanks for the tut.

    EDIT:

    I forgot my manners,

I ABSOLUTELY FREAKING LOVE YOU FOR THIS

You might have luck using the floppy method of locking the drive, it seems to be more compatible with certain mobo's

Well in case anyone was wondering I managed to format my new 200GB HD on my mom's computer, which only had 2 IDE channels..I am now convinced the IDE/RAID channels on my mobo were the problem here. No issues at all now though. My xbox is now all hooked up, with plenty of space. :)

thank you all for the help.

I finaly got it to work. I had shademans softmod on it. The way he had evox set up, ther wasn't a backup option. I FTP'ed my evox ini from my other xbox and replaced it. Then I used evox to backup my eeprom.

Built using xboxhdm with it set to master. Put it back in the xbox set to cable select and BAM, big hdd

Thanks alot for the tut, works good. It only took about 45 min for the complete process, once I had the right eeprom

I have yet to have a problem on a computer or a xbox that I could't eventually fix thanks to forums like this

    Thanks again
