no, I'm point out that you need to do this via hardware and the set up should be how I've pointed out

oh, in that case do the following

remove the power cable from your pc
locate the screws at the back and remove them
    slide case of pc open
remove the IDE cable from your C drive
remove the power connector from you C drive
connect your hard drive you are going to build making sure it's little plastic jumper is in the position to set it as master
connect the power connector to your hard drive
(if you still get the "no hard drive connected" error then plug the IDE cable in after the menu has loaded from the hard drive software - it should pick it up then)
    replace the power cable
boot pc and insert the disk with the xbox hard drive building software on it
follow on instructions that you should have to make the hard drive

when done, pull power cable out and re-connect your old drive and your done =)

I don’t want to interrupt but I have a problem with my hd
I accidently unlocked my hd (using an xbox bootable cd) and i now get error 5, I tried locking it with programs in windows with no luck and restoring a previous image of my hd...now i think it became corrupt. So I have an official xbox hd that will not load in the xbox and it will not recognize in windows. I just want to get my xbox back to the softmodded state it use to be in, now I can’t do crap. I backed up my eeprom and key awhile back, is there any software that will load up the xbox without the error 5? Or anyway to format a bran new hd from a pc and load my backups (the hd key) to a new drive without using the xbox? Many thanks

your gonna have to remove the drive from that case and install it in to your pc the same way as the one thats in there now but remember to remove the cables from the one installed in there aready, screws may be hiden under stickers, if it's one of them weird type screws (eg star or hex) then you could try a pc shop to unscrew them and replace them with normal screws.

and make your pictures smaller please, I'm not blind

if there is no screws it's clicked together so pop it open and the hard drive will fit where the current xbox drive fits

It sounds like you simply need to relock your HD using your eeprom.bin. Using the xboxhdm software documented in this very long thread, you will be able to restore a full hd image from backup & relock your existing or upgrade hd.

    Hello there!

Decided to register here so I could ask some questions.

First of all, I sofmodded my Xbox using Krazie's Softmod. I want to upgrade the HDD, but I'm kinda scared of screwing the hdd .

I'm gonna use XBOXHDM to add the new hdd to the xbox but i cant create the ISO because it's over 800mb, and I can't burn it to a CD.

This is what I have in my C Drive:

And this is what I have on the E drive:

Inside the dashboard folder I have this:

And of course the shadowc folder has the shadowc.img that is 500mb big!

How can I resolve this? Can I delete shadowc.img?

    Please help me!

    Thanks guys!

I'm having a bit of trouble.
I cloned my hard drive; And then rebooted. Unplugged the hard drive after the bios was loaded, I put the hard drive back in. And the hard drive i'm using is COMPATABLE. It's a maxtor model.

I used the ORIGINAL xbox (8gb stock) to a 40 GB.

I successfully locked the drive, but I keep getting error 6.

    Please help me.
