Quite the legacy indeed. As for your questions GEDG, I had a similar issue when I used a PC that didn't support drives higher than 120 gb (aka, no LBA 48 support) Unfortunately, the drive I used did indeed get locked, but with a key I did not know! I solved it by buying a program for $15 from http://www.hddunlock.com and unlocked it using that. Then I was able to use a newer pc to retry my locking attempt and it worked fine. Note - the hddunlock program completely erases the drive during the unlock process. Hope this helps, SlaeYer

Good to see that all this time later, there are people still helping on my tutorial for those who need it! I'm currently working with Xbox 360 modding, so I haven't done anything with the regular Xbox in a while. Anyway, keep up the great work!

Well, my PC SHOULD support drives bigger than 120gb being that the stock drive that came with it is 200gb. But I'll see if I can try that program before returning this drive, thanks a lot.

Checking user accounts of the program on forums it seems to work but they want to charge me $30 to unlock it and I don't think it's worth it because what if I lock it and Xboxhdm locks it with the wrong key again? I just downloaded Hddunlock which is a free program but I need a DOS boot disk to make it work. Where can I get one of those and is there any way to burn them to CD since I don't have floppy drive.

Nevermind about the DOS bootdisk thing, there's no way to do the whole hdunlock thing without a floppy drive because that program is ancient, it was made way before Xboxhdm appeared. I kept trying different things, it's going to be 3 days now that I've been trying to unlock this stupid thing, I might have to RMA it to newegg and get a refund and NOT a new drive because I'm afraid Xboxhdm will do the same thing again...or it might be the eeprom itself I don't know.

My apologies if this has already been mentioned and I over looked it...Ok so I've upgraded my hdd to an 80gig and it is working fine, however I'm having a problem with my F drive, It's more of and inconvenience problem...I can access it through complex tools and install and boot games on it through complex tools, but it shows up in system info, however it doesn't show up in the xbmc file manager nor can I access it through ftp. I would like to be able to access it through xbmc mostly so I can put my apps and music in there as well as ftp things off my computer into it...Any ideas on how to do this? Thanks

When you used xboxhdm to lock your hard drive it also sets a master lock as XBOXSCENE so try to unlock it using a master lock password.

Go to your file manager, press the white button and select add source. You should be able to select F:. If you can't you should update your xbmc via an AID disc.
    It will look like this

If there is no option to turn softmod off without uninstalling it, just do a hardmod because you can switch the chip off and play live, but if you dont like to solder, dont do a hardmod.

ok i found the solution to the problem thanks to C4RN1.

i had a corrupt eeprom.bin file. i just deleted the eeprom.bin backup and then re-backed it up. i then used filezilla to ftp the new eeprom.bin, remade my linux.iso cd and it locked on the first try.

    thanks again C4RN1 :)

    yes i did,

Do i do the following on the xbox

"On your xbox's evox dashboard go to system utils and select backup. While your waiting for that to finish, extract all files in xboxhdm 1.9 to your PC'S hard drive and open up the folder 'linux'."

    ..continued from here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/657502/4307027

I'm having a bit of trouble with the locking part, xboxhdm said it couldn't find the "eeprom.bin" file, so I got the code using config magic and entered it in manually. It worked, but when I put the new HDD in the Xbox I get error 06, is there anyway I can lock the HDD without using xboxhdm, is there another program, because I don't have the PC I used to make the new HDD, I borrowed one, all I have is a laptop.

    check this out http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/35/203286

Never tried it but I read at other forums that it does work.

Also you probably screwed up your bigger HDD manually inputing the eeprom code. If you cant unlock that then too bad its useless. I hope you still have the stock HDD you can get the eeprom from there and its in a folder E:\Udata\2xxxxxxxxxx\0000000000000\Backup.

Please forgive me if this has already been answered in this thread, but it's grown so large now it's quite a task to read the entire thing.

I used this tutorial to upgrade my hard drive, but now it only boots to the regular "stock" dashboard. It doesn't seem to be soft modded. I assume I can probably just re-soft mod it the way I did the original drive; am I correct in this? Is it normal for it to do this after the HD upgrade?

Most importantly, is it safe for me to conect to XBox Live with this? I know the softmod tutorial said that you can if you setup a dual-boot with the standard dash and the hacked dash; does this still apply with the upgraded HD?

    Thanks in advance.

Edit: seems it also freezes if I try to go to network settings; methinks something's borked.

Edit 2: I just got this xbox (used of course), and there's nothing of value on it. If it would be easier to somehow upgrade the disc with the default xbox settings, and then re-softmod it, I'd be happy to do that.

Hey yes just re-softmod it and you should be ok. I don't think going on live is a good idea because I think it checks your hdd serial number with your xbox serial to make sure they match up. The whole dual boot thing is for the original HDD and even then i think certain games can look for modded content now (eg. halo 2) What I used to do was keep the stock hdd with just the microsoft dash on it and just switch the cables between the drives. I would just set it on top of the new HDD (since its thinner and easier to get to the connections. And just put the top on but dont screw it down and it worked very well. Hope this helps. And for the network settings try reinstalling the softmod and edit them in the soft mod to see if that works.
