Ok not trying to overwhelm you guys but I'm getting frustrated a little. I read the guide Swango linked to update HD, i've read through it and posted my question there as well, but it's been dead for a while so I'm just gonna keep running with this one also.

I made the disk, booted my computer, but what happens is during step one i type 1 xboxhd it says:
    isolinux/faximage.........................................
    Loading/intrid.gz................................................................................

The secound lines exact txt may be a little off

-then the screen goes black, and my computer just idles,

Just some extra info if i choose option 3 from the boot menu, and type unlockhd -a it finds my HD and says it is unlockable, so i know it knows my HDD is inthere
Any ideas? Thanks for all the help guys..

    @Altus

Try reburning the disc and make sure all the files are in the correct places before you burn them. If everything is correct and it still doesnt start, try an older pentium III computer to boot the disc from with your hdd in that... My Pentium 4 doesnt work to do this method and I hear that is common that newer computers will not recognize this disc properly...

Well, i had read that the disk doesn't burn right sometimes, so i tried it 4x.Never any luck. i dont have access to an older computer, i mean my desktop is like 5 yrs old, but maybe even that is too new. Thanks for the help, i guess im going to just have to burn to disk, I'll just figure out how to install XBMC and do that, save emulators on the xbox and just be able to play backups burnt to disk. Dont know if i would have gotten into all this if i knew that was going to be the ultimate outcome though.............

Last question about that damM FTP - My problem is that i cant get it to connect on my Laptop w/ Vista, which is what i really need cause the Desktop w/ XP is old and slow (as dirt). I've followed the two different guides which have been linked to me and read through them but cant quit swing it. I've also googled myself silly.

I set my XBOX to Static mode in Network settings punch in the Ip 192.168.0.3/net mask 255.255.255.0/Gateway same as IP

Then i open my network sharing center>manage networks>properties locate v4 internet connection>properties>click on the manual connection circle and enter in my settings the suggested IP/netmask/gateway(I've also tried all different combos of numbers that other guides recommended)

Then i open Flash FXP (i also have tried smart FXP like you suggested swango) and built the connection - then I type in the IP address and password & try to connect, Smart FXP says the xbox isn't responding, Flash just trys over and over saying Connection faild (connection timed out)

**If i try the DHCP route instead of Static like some of the guides U tube recommended every time i reboot the xbox while connected to my computer the IP comes up 0.0.0.0 (which is crap)

I am trying to use the Crossover Cable Method and i am using a crossover cable for sure :)

*****I know its alot of stuff but i just want to try and give you guys all the info possible****

Any more ideas out there? LOL, b/c I'm lost its midnight and i have been at this FTP and that stupid HDD since about 630 pm, no success :(

While I'm not a network expert, I noticed a discrepency in the statement above. I apologise if you've already checked this, however, it's possible you may have a setting messed up somewhere. Remember, both the Xbox and PC you connect it to via crossover need to be set with manual IP addresses as there is no DNS server running between direct-connect devices (typically).

Here's a sample setup for both the PC and the Xbox. Please note that while any device with proper TCP/IP support can be the Gateway, the following assumes that you are using the PC as the Gateway device.

    PC:
    IP - 192.168.0.1
    Net Mask - 255.255.255.0
    Gateway - 192.168.0.1
    DNS - 192.168.0.1

    Xbox:
    IP - 192.168.0.2
    Net Mask - 255.255.255.0
    Gateway - 192.168.0.1
    DNS - 192.168.0.1

Notice that the Gateway and DNS entries point back to the PC? That's intentional!! This trick sets up direct TCP/IP communication between just about any PC or network device and could even be extended to multiple machines through the use of hubs or switches.

Personally, I'd say screw the crossover, connect it directly to your router with a straight cable and set it to DHCP. Once booted, see if you can connect to the IP address listed on the screen

    Hope this helps,

Yes I agree with skipping the crossover and I appollogize, you do set to DHCP not Static to get an IP that looks like 192.168.1.103 this is the method I use that works with a straight cable and a router.

OK, yeah I have been leaving the two the same on the X-Box which may be why I'm not having success. Will give that one a go tonight. I really would like the Crossover/Laptop method to work simply b/c my desktop is old, in a room w/ no T.V to check so I have to lug it upstairs then bring in a little T.V if i need to mess w/ network settings on the spot and stuff (you get the picture)

But I will give those a shot tonight when I get home and report back. **Once I get that up and running I was thinking of trying the Chimp method for my HDD, but I've been reading through these forums and it seems so much can go wrong I am nervous to ruin my X Box now that it is finally soft moded!

Quick update, Ran Chimp, it failed when I put in the drive it said X Box required Service. Put the original HDD back in and ran Chimp again SUCCESS!!

So I now have a 250gig HDD in my soft mod X Box running UnleashX, and somehow the soft mod stuck after I installed the new HDD (not that I’m complaining!!).

***So now with that settled I would just like to figure out how to get this FTP to work, I havn't tried the suggestions yet b/c getting that HDD upgraded was priority. I'll let you guys know how this evenings FTP trials go***

Nope no luck, i tried those exact settings. Like i said it works on my desktop with xp. But when i try it w/ the xover cable out of my laptop (running vista) to my xbox in static mode it just dosn't connect even w/ those settings. If I switch it to DCHP in the xbox settings like i'm supposed to for xover cable and reboot the xbox it always loads the IP address as 0.0.0.0 ; and i cant find anywhere why i does that--

DHCP via the crossover method will simply not work, there is no DHCP server running to communicate with. That said, the method I described should work. Are you running any kind of Firewall on your PC (Windows Firewall, NAV, etc.)?

Guys THANK YOU for all the help, honestly i appreciate you taking your time to help others, i figured it out in Vista. I would open my network settings then choose manage networks, and i kept choosing the wireless network to edit the properties. Finally it dawned on me to try the LAN settings since i am using a xover cable, then i did exactly what you said slaeyer -- only in Vista you adjust the v4 network -- but i used the number set up you suggested, which i had been inputting wrong and now it WORKS finally. Thanks again, and if you dont understand what i am saying just ask and i'll explain again.

EDIT: BTW i am in static mode like you just suggested (missed it the first time we must have posted almost the exact same time) , screw the DCHP

    Good job noticing that!!

I personally setup static IPs for all devices even tho I have wired my house and run a central server. This way, I always know what IP to find the xbox on. Most routers reserve 100 numbers for static use, choosing to start assigned IPs at x.x.x.100.

Thats pretty sweet, I would love to do that one day when I'm not renting. It's funny b/c I am an electrician so i can do the power no problem..lol..but then ppl expect me to know about electronics and networking and stuff and it is not the same at all....

OK so I wont be back till later, but now I have installed XBMC (i have to boot it through apps in unleashX but thats Okay for now) How do i put emulators and games on it (i figured out movies) and do i just base it all out of my E folder, even though most of my memorey is in F and G. What would i name the folders i imagin E:games E:emulators E:movies But when i put in a iso (of a game i already own) that i downloaded off xboxisozone.com into E:\games\fighting_jam.iso it doesn't show up when i go to games in XBMC thanks

you should have F:/games G:/games and F:/music G:/music you can make other folders also but DVD2XBOX you can copy straight from disc to these(or any) folder

Most Xbox apps expect something akin to the following folder structure, actual partition used does not matter, I'd personally keep the E: partition clean except for music you'd like to listen to via the MS Dash.

    apps
    emus
    games
    music
    video

so im guessing i would just do the same with emulators like F\emulators\n64\ROMS\diddy kong racing (as an example)

Also it worked and found my stuff, but i tried to put a game on there
F\games\Fighting Jam\fightingjam.iso It shows the fighting jam folder in games, but when i open it no ISO file -- do they need to b formated or something?

They need to be ripped from the iso into folders, ex. F:\games\007\Contents-of-game-disc. . . DVD2Xbox is a good tool for the job!

I suscribed to xboxisozone and i can just DL them as long as i own them. They come in a rar file, when i unpack it i get one ISO file. Now does it always have to be F/game/007/game contents or where you using that as a 007 game example.

i got the movies and emulators working but like i said before with that Fighting Jam game its not working(and i've only tried that one game) here is how i set that up F\games\fighting_jam\fightingjam.iso

when i go to games it shows all the way down to the fighting jam folder, then i open it and i can't access the ISO file. Were you saying it should be F\games\007\fightingjam.iso? I doubt it but i guess i never know........
