sorry, having to use my dad's 'puter, told hin I wanted to do the fix on mine myself. We only have the two computers in the house. By the way, how long did it take you to get as good as you are, for the diagnostic thing?

    Dolphin 2

I guess not, only get e-mails, or put up multi screen and check back to see if there's a new post.

Glad it's up and running again. Did your dad tell you what it was?

POST beeps are the ones you hear when the computer boots up. POST = Power On Self Test.

I've no idea about what the last part of your last post is about?

Does the DVDRW work Ok now also?

    Me either dolphin2 - think I'm getting confused :)

    @Nero63/dprincess
The diagnotic thing - well I'm a fan of trial & error :)
Plus burn errors areusually caused by the following or a combination of:
    °Media (biggie)
    °Firmare not up to date
    °Burn speed
    °too much memory in use
Tweak here and there and bam your back in business.

    dolphin2 & blinkie7

the last part of the post referred to the fact that they put a 3 minute post limit on the "newbie" accounts, (can only post once every three mins.)

dolphin2 = yes, I do get the POST, all checks fine, even if I go to the device man., and check the drive, says everything is good.

blinkie7 = your funny, I like reading you, but not trying to confuse you, hope the explination above clears it up.

all concerned= got it all back up, had to break down and get help from pops on the 'network' thing, but now ready to install the update and try moving forward

garmoon = thank you for the file, I could not down load it from the providers sites, thank you

Thank you for the flash update, however, dprincess is not very pacient and has asked that I fix or replace the drive unit, being as it comes with a 1 yr. guarantee.

    @ binkie7

true, was entertaining letting her figure this out on her own. But, I guess she's tiered/bored with it.

Did the flash update, no difference, the drive unit recognizes prerecorded CD's, but not "empty" recordable disks. Am trying the LG service No., but waiting on a call-back from them.
No problem taking the drive in/out, but would like to know why, or at least know if the drive is truely deffective.

LOL - my daughter was the same way - little problem solver now it's let Mom fix/deal w/ it :)

Does the drive at least recognize blanks dvd's to burn- only cd's give it a problem?

that's it, works fine for all situations, but won't recognize the blank CD's for burning.Don't really understand it myself, will burn a dvd, do lightscribe, but wont acknowledge a blank CD.

hmmm - the cd's dprincess have are good too - use the same ones myself w/o a hitch.

Yeah I would call LG too - I'm leaning more towards defective too.
It's usually the other way around - dvd's cause the problem.
Hopefully they will have good cust serv & won't give you some bs line.

    Keep us posted!

That's the ticket, (youngster)- I boobooed, Pop's, make it better, pplleeaassee!

    @Blinkie7

That the drive be defective is the only logical solution, watched her do the clean out, supervised in the reconnect/change of cables and jumpers, all she had to do, as earlier posted, was do a light-scribe burn and wha-la, no more cd burning.

If I can get through to LG, will let you know what they say

Well, that worked well, I hope the new drive works as intended. LG drives aren't bad just don't do quality scans with Nero. I like my LG. But I use my BenQ to burn. Make sure if you or dprincess is using +Rs to book type them to DVD-ROM. Your LG is capable.

ain't that the truth, just too easy to get a new drive, specially since the LG website doesn't have any updates on their computer stuff since "04", kinda wondering if it advisable to use it at all!!
