do you mostly push or pull? not intended to be a stupid question... I understand it could be both, given the total weight of the cars/cargo, eh? Other reasons?

That would depend on the type of train. Thru-freight is all pulling, while yard jobs and locals are for the most part equal in the pushing and pulling.

thanks for the clarification. We have a retired RR man on our street who has fixed up his backyard with a small rail for his grandkids. He also has shrubery trimmed as locomotives, and a hand car out front of his house. It's cute!

My wife and I have a retreat outdide of Santa Cruz, CA not far from Roaring Camp in Felton; they have a narrow guage track as well as a regular track that they use for tourism in the SC mountains as well as commute between Felton and Santa Cruz.

    Interesting stuff.

Is that South Carolina or Santa Cruz...I live in South Carolina, not familiar with the mountains in Santa Cruz. LOL

Your local retired RR man sounds like he watches too much Monster House.

Santa Cruz, just North of Monterrey and south of Halfmoon Bay, all south of San Francisico. Wonderful coastline and the weather fabulous most of the year - the storms do get magnificient just not hurricane category. My little digs, of which I'm here now (oh yeah I have broadband in my remote castle ;) is 6 miles from Santa Cruz nestled in the redwoods. I love it here!

    @nrautava

Your right, this is a thread about our usernames and discussion about them...since I've explained the source of mine I shall no longer contribute to this idle banter and shall never return to this thread.

And thanks again for keeping us straight.

    Choo Choo WRONG!

Nephilim even developed a new word on this thread!

    "Authenticism" aka Authentic Cynicism

So if going off-topic with a little train jargon upsets this thread I'd hate see what would happen to all the other threads in "safety valve"

    GOSH!

I know this is off topic but what should I feed my Llama? Lasagna doesn't seem to be doing the trick, she just spits! And the metal container seems to have adverse affect on her fillings; that said, anyone know of a good Llama dentist?

She just keeps on spitting. It's wierd!

You just got banned by me for the second time for that crap you idiot. After my first ban you got reinstated back to your Senior Member status on the strict condition that you knock off the wannabe Mod crap but you just couldn't leave it alone could you?

@ LOCOENG, I have had the pleasure of driving a Great Western Railways pannier tank steam loco, & have ridden on the footplate of a GWR Castle mainline loco (the same loco I repaired/welded plates on the firebox floor). Wow, what an experience. I do not know the fascination with the railways that a lot of people (men that is!) have. I love the engineering aspect of it & the shear size of the engines.

Hmmm sounds like this is from Stephen King's Dark Tower series.
