Just out of curiousity, is this a full disc backup or reauthor?

Try running the VIDEO_TS.IFO through VobBlanker and then re-encode with DVD Shrink and try burning again.

Adaptec's ASPI layer is what you are talking about...XP doesn't need their drivers to burn, but if you do have them and they are corrupt you might experience erratic burning behavior.

You can run Nero Infotool to see if yours are corrupt:

It was a Full Burn and not a re-author... In another Forum I was told that its got to be an issue with my USB device:

Ok in device manager it says

    Universal Serial Bus Controllers
    Intel(R)82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller-2442
    Intel(R)82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller-2444
    USB Mass Storage Device
    USB Printing Support
    USB Root Hub
    USB Root Hub

There telling me unless I have 2.0 that I can't use my External Dvd Burner but according to the company they say I can use it. Im about ready to give up. Any suggestions?

I had problems using an external burner with my laptop until I switched enclosures. As I recall it was some type of time out, semaphore nonsense. My enclosures are now all dual USB 2/Firewire but I use them (hard drives and my burner) with the firewire only.

I also upgraded from the el cheapo ProDiscs I started with but that was not the source of my time out while burning problems. They were giving me a problem on playback at the end of the disc even when I left 200k or so of space.

    Alrighty then.

The enclosure is the case your DVD burner is in. Firewire is the type of interface used to transfer data between your PC and the DVD drive enclosure. You probably have a USB 2.0 (only) enclosure now.

Someone else can break down the details of these but the bottom line is that I think there are more cheapo USB 2.0 only enclosures than either combo (USB 2.0 & Firewire) or Firewire only enclosures. The enclosure for my burner costs more (~$50) than these burners now go for. Since I have an IBM T42 laptop which came with a DVD ROM/CD burner and the ultra slim laptop burner for it was ~$300 (I think) when I got it, it didn't matter.

I can use the same enclosure if I opt to toss my old burner and replace it with a new $35-40 burner.

I also read someplace that downloading SP1 will add the USB 2.0 onto your pc, can anyone verify that info? I read about it at microsoft and 1 error ive been getting is stated on there site.

What operating system (and version) are you using? How old is your PC? I'm guessing you bought your external DVD burner as a unit and not burner and enclosure (case) seperately as I did. If you bought it recently you may want to consider returning it for a different model.

The issue may be that you are using old USB ports and need to get a USB 2.0 card (~$20) for your PC.

From what you've mentioned far I think that is the issue. If your PC doesn't say it has USB 2.0 ports and XP Device Manager also does not, you need to get the card. This assumes you have an available card slot in your PC.

Keep the receipt and if it does not do the job you can probably return it.

Ok, and how do I know if I have an Extra slot and if I don't then what is my next step if I buy a 2.0 card?

ALso, how do I find out what brand I need to buy or are they pretty much the same for every pc?

Is it easy enough for me to put in myself?
