I noticed a lot of dvd recorders have an IEEE1394 input for backing up your home movies...this is what i'm curious about

I'm going to get a dvd recorder + hard drive unit.

Can I back up the camcorder to hard disk drive on the unit, then use the IEEE1394 as an output to computer to transfer the video file to computer for editing/hosting/etc.???

    porshuh,
I'm not sure about other DVDRs but my Philips 3455H/37's IEEE1394 is an input ONLY. If this is the case with yours as well, I would think you could run your camcorder into your DVDR onto it's HDD or to DVD+R/RW and onto your cpu.
