After checking some work I learned from a colleage that the dvd I made could not be viewed. Up to this point, I have no need to use Nero utilities because I checked the work and it played in my Sony dvd player. Well, I was made to feel like a jackass because I didn't use CdSpeed and whatever other utils that would give a clue to a bad burn. I loaded the utils with a blank dvd -- not wanting to damage any completed work. This did not give any results. Is there a guide here for using the utils to check work so people like my colleague can view the thing? Or is it perhaps not my probelm at all? What sort of test results say the burn is good? What sort of test disk should be used and is there one that is better to do testing?
There is no guide so to speak, but here is an extensive thread on quality scanning using Nero's CD/DVD speed PI/PO scanning: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/262544 Also, it may not be anything in particular you are doing wrong, but rather an incompatability issue with your buddies stand alond player. If you are using DVD+R blanks try booktyping them...
