I was thinking the same thing. We're gonna see if we can't find a decent 4-speed out of an old Camaro or Nova.

This job is a customization AND a restoration so I don't want to go too big. It's gonna be a hot rod but I'd like to keep it fairly tame(barring the 357.)

4-speed will hold the power, but it will make it expensive to drive. if you can find a rebuilt 5-speed or order a tranny from a modern company, you'll get better reliability, performance, and gas mileage.

If I can find a 5-speed it would be a good choice but I'm not worried about mileage. Don't drive our hotrods much :)

We're gonna maybe look into a restoration company to see if they have the part. I wanna wait until we find one that's nicely priced.

EDIT: We basically use what we can find :)

I know exactly what you mean. We're looking to see what any of my Dad's friends has. If it comes into our view at a decent price I'm sure we could easily score one.

EDIT: New toy for me! I followed an online guide and made a USB adapter for my Xbox controllers. COOLEST THING EVER!!!!!!! It works great!!

    *excited squeal and much wiggling*

    Latest Aquisition?

A new house! Not actually new-built in 1992,but new to us and it's a modular, LOL!!!

The house is setting empty and I just signed the contract.Bank said closing should be 4/30/07

1 acre lot out in the country and only 5 mins to work!!!

    $88,000 for 3 bedroom,2 bath,all appliances furnished-made by whirlpool,new carpet,new windows,new water softerer,new crappers,new cabinets,new drywall/paint inside,new furnace,blinds,driveway,new roof,2 decks. Everything is practically less than 3 yrs old,except for the siding!!! They even left the 500 gal propane tank at 60%!!!!

    No sexual predators
Only 1/4 mile from the nursing home,so I won't have far to move when I get old!

    Even got a large shed,looks like crap,but doesn't leak.

    Drawbacks:
No garage-I'll fix that next year.
No lawnmower, LOL-I dread the mowing already, LOL
    No air conditioning.
Master bath has french doors- that oak doorjamb needs stained and varnished-a total of 10 mins of work.

I'm not sure how the land and home values vary between the entire USA,but in my area ( north of Columbus Oh),this is very good price.I've been looking for 3 months.

1 acre of good ground runs $20,000 +. Above that, runs around $10,000 + per acre from 3-6 acres.

@Saugmon...you win for the best aquisition! Great deal too...in Philly, a one bedroom condo will cost you a quater of a million dollars with $700 monthly maintenance fees and no property except what's in your flower pots.

Congrats on the latest acquisition saugy.....

The land in my area run between $50,000 and $75,000 for a quarter acre depending on the location whether it be on marsh, coast or inland. The houses in my neighborhood run $115 per square foot and go up as you move from neighborhood to neighborhood. I think it is a great deal and I know you will be happy.

Yup... I did that for a reason. So I could watch all the videos that have been flagged. How did you find my you tube profile? Was it from the comment I posted on the afterdawn tutorial?

They have condo houses here, and a 3 bedroom/attached garage runs $115,000 is about as cheap as they come. Not sure about the maint fees.

They have condo garages at my nearby lake. 10' x 30' that runs $20,000

Here's some pics I copied from the web listing and the house is spotless:

The land prices for my area is higher because there's 3 Honda Manufacturing plants-autos/motorcycles/atv's/generators/and a slew of parts manufacturers that supply Honda of America. This area of plants compares to Detroit for GM/Ford/and crysler.

When looking for a 3 bedroom house, anything under $80,000 was a pc of crap 100 yr old house, reg trailer,or pc of crap modular with very tiny 56' x 120' lot.

My needs of atleast a 2.5 car garage/3 bedrooms/1.5 baths+/ and a decent looking house, already to move in,then the price goes well past $150,000 and it's nothing fancy. The fancier ones with those features run over $200 k.

Property taxes for this place: $1150 a year, but that's because the locals built new school buildings.

    Thanx ger!

We had another manufactured home in line, but it didn't happen.

    Built in 2000 on block foundation.2280 sq ft,3 bedrooms,2 baths,2 decks,with ramps,master bath-with jacuzzi tub,huge kitchen with island,gas fireplace,-2 huge living rooms!

    It was a repo home,listed for $42,900.

    December,it was listed for $56,000,jan-$47,000,mar-$42,900

It wasn't winterized,so a terlet tank was busted, probably all the pipes as well. Dog poo in every room-so the entire carpet-still in good shape, would have had to be steam cleaned by pros.Even the hottub on the deck was froze solid-all the way to the top.

I got the bank-Fannie Mae- down to $41,000,put $500 down. 3 weeks later, the bank said it appraised for $79,000 and wouldn't let it go for that price. That was a load of crap.

But now after talking to neighbors, there's raw sewage leading onto that property,it needed flood insurance-imagine that-I'm at one of the highest elevations in ohio and most of the property mandates for flood insurance. The prior owner had a disabled kid and the health department told them they had to leave the premises.
There's still the dog poo in the house, waiting for the bank to try to sell it again, LOL. If it goes up for sale again, I'm tempted to offer $20,000 and see if it goes!

@saugmon...just be careful. That kind of damage can be worse than it seems.
