    Hey everyone,
I have a bit of a trouble backing up my ISO and image files. I recently bought a 100 pack of Verbatim - MCC004 media code manufacturer - and a DVR-112D Pioneer DVD Burner. Now I THINK it works fine with a compilation of files (I've only backed up one compilation, so i'm not 100% sure yet), but Image files it gives me this error in many programs (here is Nero 7):

    9:32:46 PM #20 CDR -1106 File Writer.cpp, Line 299
    Power calibration error
    E: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D

I'll post the whole log if necessary.

But I've tried my Sony and even my Optodisc (which I have had for like two years now =P) media and they all work fine. I can't identify whether this is a problem with my Blank Verbatims or my new burner... but the fact I can back up a compilation of media makes me confused (which work flawlessly). I've never got an error as "Power Calibration Error" either...

I was originally thinking it was Nero, but I tried DVD Decrypter has the same error... I then thought maybe my power cord was loose but being that the burner still burns DVDs with other media and specific files, I started to doubt it.

Can anyone help me? it'd be much appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi ChaosBeck
You may just need a firmware update - the latest one (from May I think) is 1.21.
If you're not running 1.21 firmware on the Pioneer update and try again.

Burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the media too - for these Verbs - 8x.

Still a no go then rest of the most recent log would be good - just be sure to edit out the serial #.
    They usually begin w/ 1A, 1C or 5C.

Nothing stands out in the log & since it burns other non verb discs don't think the other solutions for calibration may apply here - like switch power connector, don't used a shared power connection, switch the drive to master (or slave - depending on the confirmation) Plus this drive is on it's own ide connection.

I think you may have bad batch of Verbatim - they're usually very good but then again nothings 100%. I'd take them and exchange them.

Damn, Well that blows. I'm gonna try burning it on my other DVD Burner on my other computer and if that doesn't work, I'm gonna do as you say and return them... hopefully Futureshop wont be harda$$es like they've done before ;)

Thank you for your help! It is most appreciated. =D

    ChaosBeck,

make sure those Verbatims are "Made In Singapore" NOT India. the ones "made In India" can cause problems. stick with getting them from supermediastore.com or meritline.com those are you're best bet

Don't worry, I checked RIGHT when I opened my box =P (Ordered online) Wait... Singapore? I've heard the ones made in Taiwan were the good ones.

Also... for some reason... they're now working... the first disc was fine, the next three were bad, now everything else is fine... man that's weird (also looking at some of the raw data... the second line, there are three codes that are different from some... weird)

Taiwan and Singapore would be good.
Since you have some working now maybe just had a few bad ones (?) I'd try and burn a few more.
I've had it happen - not often - but hey nothing's perfect :)

I've had one bad Verbatim DVD+R DL out of about 120

and it recorded fine but the picture quality was a little fuzzy for the first 30 mins or so then it straight out
