you say work on another pc? did you install and use it properly or just it auto loaded and you see files?
By now I have installed and used this on several pc's as a test... this is the only one with the problem.
Ok, in alcohol I made a set of (.mds's) one for the install and one for the materials disc... I then mounted the install (.mds) into the "E" virtual drive... and ran the install. No problems... Then I unmounted the .mds and mounted the second .mds of the materials disc. everything moved over... When I open the program and search for material (its literally a button labeled search with absolutely no drill down) the program does not see the data... I can even take the materials cd to another pc and load it... and auto run will run and that pc (without the rosetta stone program) will show the files and folders... It wont work obviously without the program installed but I can see the data none the less.
At this point I am wondering what in windows registry is incorrect or missing... or what program association or plugin has been removed... This is so odd.
I can provide screen shots if needed. This time using nero I created an iso image of the materials disc and first put it in a temp folder. then with alcohol I mounted the iso into my E (virtual) then within disk manager I changed the drive letters (switching E and D) Still no luck... I am telling you there has to be something missing or something... I am going to make an ISO of anything else and see if it is unreadable as well.
Well, my fear is correct... I made an image of a folder named giants (giants pics) I burned it using nero. put the newly burned cd in and was able to view the contents via windows... This is very odd. I would not be questioning copy protection if this disc didnt work in other places... but it does so I am really really conused.
when it works in other places, are you useing cdr copies made by alcohol120% ? alcohol has emulation software built in which when enabled can play/use copied protected discs. have you tried running the disc from a ""NON"" cdwriter drive, just a basic dvdrom no burner.
any of the copied discs (there are so many renditions by now) will work on any pc... Laptop with dvd rom, pc with cdrw, pc with dvdrw, pc with dvdrom... Just not here with my previous cdrw (that I threw out thinking that it was faulty) and this brand new liteon dvdrw. But I don't think it is a drive thing. I am thinking that maybe something in the registry got f'ed with this particular ISO type. or something like that. Otherwise why would only this material not work on ONLY this box??? so strange.
AND the fact that ISObuster, Alcohol%120, and Nero all can see the data!!! But windows XP pro cannot? that is probably where I need to pin point. CD shows as corrupt or incorrect formatting... But All three of the above say otherwise. And as far as I know there is no zero copyright protection, otherwise why would it work ANYWHERE else??? A tough dilema huh? Thanks for helping.
Just an update. Still no luck. Today I did a windows repair installation of XP. Patched it up and.... Still not working. However now instead of an error when I open my computer the drive appears empty and xp left side bar says write these files to disk... and i have nothing in clipboard.
THE PLOT THICKENS, Maybe someone could explain this... When I boot into safe mode. the cd loads fine. Windows autorun starts and I am able to browse the folders and files... But a normal boot... no good! Very odd! I'm hoping I don't have to reformat and reload...
safe mode doesnt boot drivers so when it does boot normal it loads something not to good which conflicts
Exactly, so I guess the investigation begins. Maybe with a little luck and msconfig I can figure this out...
FINALLY!!! Rosetta Stone uses quicktime. I didnt need to reformat but that would have worked too. I uninstalled all instances of my Motorola Q software, MS Active sync, and Quicktime. Then I cleared all registry entries of the above... Whallaah!!! I reloaded and it works now... Very odd. Thanks. for all the help.
