    ok back on topic..

    PC shut itself off.. >___>;

and im still thinking its the gecube, as the cooling and power has like absolutely no problem at all, and now im thinking of RMAing this card... too much money spent and too many damn problems. so i'll just settle for an 7950 GT i thinks unless i gets a solution within the next few days..

i've just changed a load of bios settings, hopefully that changes things. let you guys know in a bit

Its most likely the TEC on your card. Just change to an aftermarket cooler, that will fix it. The x1950xt is better than the 7950, so just keep that in mind when your rma your card.

yeah i know that, im using that zalman 700 thingy with AC5 on it at the mo. so no more TEC for it....

i also know the x1950xt is better than the 7950 gt, just... i'd rather have something that works rather that shuts down my PC when im 2mins in a game.

Also... umm, i did a load of bios changes, but im not sure if i got the right ones, i'll take a pic of it later.

Well, by the looks of things, Graphics carsd heat output is going to slowly settle down over time, so with any luck the Gecube X1950XT will be the last of its kind.

    Greetings to all!

I've been reading this thread for quite some time now and it has been very useful to find info and tips for this last agp beast!

My query is about the drivers.

Up to now I've been using the drivers found on the cd shipped with the card (ati 8.321a) because they are overall performing a lot better than any new ones.

Even with crysis at 1680X1050 all runs extra smooth with all settings set at medium but with one problem:The game crashes.

I know it's not overheating (HR-03 max temps 60 C at full load, no OC besides overdrive).

Now newest drivers based on Catalyst 7.10 with agp support spare me with the crashing issue BUT i have lousy gaming performance. I tried all packages: Omega, ATI, and the newly released Gecube package (ati 8.43) with same perf issues.

What drivers do you guys use/recommend?

Well whichever ones work... There is a new Omega driver out (I believe 3.8.421) that I am using, and I havent experienced any crashes yet with it...

Maybe try reinstalling Crysis? Is this the demo or the real game you're talking about?

Full game not the demo..I had the same issues with the demo though.

As for the latest omega drivers (base on cat 7.10) the solve as I said earlier the crashing issue but like all 7.10 packages, they lack performance (low frame rate).

The above mentioned drivers have all very poor performance compared to previous ones (with agp support as we didnt have support with 7.9 nor 7.8)

So you're saying you're having better performance with the Catalysts than the omegas? Hmm, maybe I will try those then. The first level of Crysis ran great, I ran it on all high, 800x600 with 4xAA and got around 20fps. Not really that bad, the motion blur makes the lag "disappear" so you cant even notice it.

Btw, can you give me a link to the site with the drivers that you're using right now? (The good performing ones) I will download and try them to see if I have the same crashes.

Ray, doesn't 800x600 look pretty bad. You must be getting a LOT of jaggies.

To be honest with you abuzar, I cant tell... I mean, I play it with AA so I guess that helps, but I really cannot tell the difference between 1280x960 and 800x600. Also, I usually play the game in windowed mode so it compacts the screen into a smaller size so its harder to notice.

Well, the best performing drivers are the ones shipped with the card. On the CD it states ATI 8.321A but they are no longer available for DL as the newly based on the 7.10s are (ATI 843_XP)with the same performance issues.

Crysis runs ass on most cards if you turn the resolution up high. Even I get crashes on a stable PCI express card (the X1900XT).
800x600 looks horrible on any reasonably sized screen. The best solution is to turn the dynamic lighting and shaders down, but leave the other settings high. Then you should at least manage 1024x768. Anti-Aliasing doesn't work most of the time in Crysis so I don't bother with it.

Where's the proof? That looks more like a 8800GT's 3dmark score... And I know a gecube wont get 5200 on SM2.

Actually somebody sold it to me for 300, so I just ran 3DMark to see if it works fine, and then promptly put it up on eBay. I've had offers of 420, but I countered it with 450.

I am not wealthy enough to pass up on a Business opportunity like this. I could make 100+ dollars on it, sell my 7900GTX and end up with a 8800GT! See it's all about buying low and selling cheap. This one guy sold me an Xbox 360 with a 120GB HDD, extra wireless controller and an HDMI cable for 150 bucks. I'm gonna sell that also.
