I cant find an answer to my problem and I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
I have 2 avi clips, one made by capturing the screen whilst zooming in on google earth and another made by a program that creates a screen capture of the program itself.
I have used virtualdub to modify the google earth avi and it is now what I want.
When I try to append the second avi to it, I get a sampling rate error - the first has a rate of 33.33333 and the second 50.
I got hold of virtualdubmod as it was supposed to allow the append to take place.
But I get the same error in virtualdubmod.
There is no audio on either avi.
Can I change the sampling rate on one of the avis? If so, how can I do it? What effect will changing the sampling rate of an avi have on it?
I would appreciate help as this is driving me nuts.

I'm not clear on the sampling rates you list.
This is the typical error message when the audio sampling rates don't match when appending files.

To correct it, close out VDub and load the file with the 44100 rate (these are my examples - you have to figure out your case as far as stereo, mono etc).
    Video > Direct Stream Copy
    Audio > Full Processing Mode
    Audio > Conversion
Set new sampling rate to 48000
    'OK'
    Audio > Compression
    Select the codec (I use Lame MP3) 48000 128kbps
Save the AVI then append them.
Remember to set the Video to Direct Stream Copy else you get uncompressed video.

    edit:error message not error massage.

Thanks for your reply but the error I got was for video only - neither avi has any audio stream.
I solved thi problem by changing the frame rate of both clips to be 50. I also used virtualdub to resize the second clip to be the same as the first clip (1628x780) but I still couldn't append them as I now have an error saying:
"The video streams have incompatible data formats.
(Mismatch detected in opaque data at byte 24 of the format data)"

I have looked at both clips in Gspot but can't see any differences.

Try joining them with AviDemux, it's more forgiving than VirtualDub.
