virtumonde variant refuses internet connection to laptop

got an odd one here. cousin's laptop was infested by a virtumonde variant. refuses internet connection (wired or wireless), so had to get spybot and the definitions on another computer.

spybot did clean up the virtumonde variant, but the internet is still refusing to connect to the browser.

also, system restore refuses to go back. when windows restarted, system restore said it was unable to roll back, and nothing has been changed.
