    1. Download this file - combofix.exe: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe
    2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

    Send:

    - a fresh HijackThis log
    - combofix log

    Hey LOOOTZ & n80r

Restart your computer to the safemode -> http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

When in safemode, open SmitfraudFix folder and doubleclick the file smitfraudfix.cmd
Choose option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and pressing "Enter" in order to remove the infected files.

You are asked: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove your desktop wallpaper and the infected registry keys.

The tool checks if wininet.dll file is infected. You might be asked to replace the infected .dll (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool might have to restart your computer; if it won't do it, restart your computer back to normal mode.
A textfile will appear after the cleaning process, copy this file and paste it to here.
Tha log is saved to your local diskdrive, usually C:\rapport.txt.

Warning : Running option 2 in a clean computer will delete your desktop wallpaper.
    Send a fresh hijacklog, too

By the way I tried deleting the XPassword thing after I uninstalled but it won't go away. That's the file I think my husband downloaded.

Please help. I have exams I need to do online and I can't because of all the damn popups and problems!

    :) Jess

    Hi JessLyn & Dave2k

    Hello SteveC87, welcome to Afterdawn!

Make sure you have unzipped SmitfraudFix to the desktop.

[bold]Note[/bold]: Print or copy these intructions to Notepad and save them on the desktop. You will be in safe mode and can't access the internet.

    * Reboot your computer in Safe Mode and choose your usual account. (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually, select "Safe Mode" from the menu and press Enter)
    * Open the SmitfraudFix folder.
    * Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
    * Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
    * You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
    * The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
    * A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt.

    Restart in normal mode.

Java is way out of date. This is a big security issue.
Please go here and download [bold]Java Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9[/bold].
Uninstall all previous versions of JRE via Add/Remove Programs.
    Restart and install Update 9.

Run a new scan with HijackThis and post back with the new log along with the contents of rapport.txt.
