€1.09/L in Ireland. As well as that car insurance is about €1500-2000/year for an 18 yr old male How I love my country!
neilm247: At least you don't have this moderate 100-140 percent car sales tax we have in Finland (==take a car that costs 30,000 euros in countries without car tax, like Germany, and its retail price here is 60,000 - 75,000 euros).
Ok... to add on to this thread how much is road tax in your areas? (if any?) Ours in the UK is around £110/year ($197)(€162)!...
ddp: Forgot to add the <sarcasm> tags, apologies. But yes, Finnish car taxation is insane -- and it applies to imports as well, so there's no getting around it really Rosco404: Annual road tax here in Finland for gas (==petrol for Brits, not LPG cars is e94 and for diesel cars, it depends on car's weight (diesel is significantly cheaper in Finland than petrol, but due the higher annual road tax, you need to drive minimum of appx. 25,000km per year for diesel car to be cheaper in annual costs.. . Summarum: Car owners are good for government, bit like smokers (although cigarette taxation is something that Britain has perfected to the maximum .
drd give me the price of a mainstream car in finland, i would like to compare. also http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/motoring/2005/0803/682304879MOT03STORYP1.html
neilm: Here's the MSRP list from Toyota, the blue prices are the MSRP retail prices including the VAT and car tax: http://www.toyota.fi/media/fifi/pdf/Toyota-ha_hinnasto.pdf It gets worse for high-end cars.
drd the car prices are similar in ireland give or take €1000. http://www.cbg.ie/new.asp?Make=Toyo...D=new40&modID=277&QuickSearch=Search+New+Cars
HOLY KATRINA ! ! This morning gas here in Anderson, In was $2.68 .. around noon it had gone up to $2.99 and by the middle of the afternoon everyone was selling the liquid gold for $3.19 ... I'm gonna turn into a damn recluse and not leave my house .. Wait, let me rephrase that .. I can't afford to leave my house
neilm: Interesting. I've compared prices always to Germany and prices, even tho the retail prices (before taxes) in Finland are lowest in the EU, even the cheapo cars cost 5000-9000 euros less. Like the most basic model of Corolla Verso starts in Finland from 25,600 euros and in Germany, from 19,600 euros. And more expensive the cars get, bigger the difference: Land Cruiser 100 in Germany: 57,800 euros Land Cruiser 100 in Finland: 107,900 euros I'd suspect that you guys "driving on the wrong side of the road" might have something to do with the high MSRPs (smaller volume, UK has too high income level -- easy to squeeze few extra pounds out and make rest of the "wrong siders" suffer, etc ;-)...
catfreak Feeling your pain - filled up again today $2.96 in MD but go 10-15 miles to DC and it's [bold]$3.65[/bold]! I think I need to rethink not paying attention to gas mileage when I buy a car!
this aint funny at all, it went up over night here in south texas .39 cents................ OVERNIGHT it was 2.33 @ wal mart with the 3 cent off card, totalled 2.30 even, then went to 2.69... i drove down the way a bit, sams has their 5 cents off being a member, but friggin gas there was jacked up to compensate for the difference, it was 2.74 without card, and 2.69 with card... drove down to next gas station, found valero (aka diamond shamrock) @ 2.65, so i filled up there. crap, it only takes 13.5 gallons to fill my car, but filling up now a days in my car is costing near 40 dollars. my wife's suv.......omg, i am gonna be sick ..... over 60 dollars. i feel sorry for those of you who have larger tanks and where the cost is higher, but i heard that by saturday, katrina's toll will make gas here go to over 3 bucks a gallon.
local news today reports, gas may go up to 4 dollars a gallon by this weekend i better check the air pressure in my bike i guess.
