What are the pros & cons of each box when using on NT* in Ireland? dbox 2 nokia/sagem, starview, dreambox etc

I am hearing more and more people are getting them from lads in work etc.

Are some of them able to "die" if the channels are changed by the service provider? or need to be reflashed using specialist equipment?

Is there a foolproof box that will never require updates. I am alright messing about with PCs but dont want to recommend boxes to people and then have to go around updating them all if some signal changes.

Nobody know what UPC Ireland is planing in the future. I don't think they are happy about the cracks after buying NTL Ireland.
If UPC Ireland exchange the decoding system and the cards for instance the game is over independently which box you use.

yeah I say UPC will act sooner rather then later as customers who have broadband from them have seen they have cut off users who go over their monthly quota without warning and they are now throttling Torrent file traffic.

Does this mean UPC would have to replace every pace box in the country? They would probably have to send engineers out too costing a fortune.

Other than that what are the advantages of one box over another, do starview and dreamboxes have the same nice interface and options as the dbox2's?

If UPC do the move to the latest nagra2 version they have to exchange all subscriper cards. Thats all.

It looks like you didn't recognise that Chorus and NTL Ireland both were bought from UPC Ireland.

And can any of the current boxes be updated to decode nagra2? or any other device?

It depends if someone is able to crack a new system and is willing to publish the results.
