When are you getting this error message? Are you using DVD Decrypter to rip the movie to your hard drive? What type of movie are you backing up?Some more info would be helpful.

There are some reasons why that happens in DVD Shrink because it has happened to me before.

1: The disc may be dirty
2: The disc may be scratched

i generally copy the entire dvd on the hd and use dvd shrink. but it gave this message.
then i used dvd decrypter and tried shrink again.

Try these settings for DVD Decrypter.
First, it should be version 3.5.1.0.

Open Decrypter, click on Tools, then Settings

    Click on Defaults, then select these;

    General tab
Options - Removal Method - Aggressive

    File Mode tab
Options - Remove PUOs (IFO and/or VOB)

    ISO Read Mode tab
Options - Remove PUOs (IFO and/or VOB)

    CSS tab
CSS Cracking Method - Brute Force ~> I/O Key Exchange
    On Failure - Yes

    IMPORTANT:
    I/O tab
    Options - Ignore read errors.

This is an excellent setting for dealing with scratched discs which may cause ripping problems.

    hi

the dvd decrypter had no problems ripping the dvd to my HD. the problem was caused by dvd shrink which failed and gave that error message.

why does dvd shrink say invalid file? and what should
i do to shrink this dvd?

Are you using Full Disc or Re-author? When are you getting the error? Are you using deep analysis?
Also, what is the movie you are backing up?

Do you have Power DVD on your computer? After ripping with Decrypter you should be able to view the movie to verify if the backup to the hard drive was good.
