    @andmerr
    I did read yours. I understood it, your back up with the ROM and burn w/ teh burner. I was responding to rugripper saying he can just burn (DVD9 and encrypted) straight from one crive to the other w/o ever going to the HD. I do exactly what you do, one drive for reading the other for burning.

    You can burn on the fly as long as it is a DVD5 which will require no compress or you have a dual layer and do not need compressing. But whether it's a DVD5 or a DVD9 will not matter if it's protected. I shouldn't say you can't you can it's jsut that you shouldn't b/c you will get horrible burns. Just have it go to your HD first, then you can use your dual burner set up to BURN two at once.

    rugripper - thanx - glad you like it (the SIG name)*S*

    ------

    As far as the two burners go - I wouldnt worry too much about what ppl say about what you paid, I still think you got a good - IN THE END - what matters is - will it do what you want it to do successfully - which in time - will have helped you save plenty of money.

    I have an older Sony burner and still love it - when i upgraded my burner I did so for the dual layer action (which is funny since I have yet to burn something on a dual layer disk *L*)

    ----------------------------

    jumping to another one of your questions - SHRINK

    You can download SHRINK for free in the SOFTWARE part of this site - Shrink will compress the movies you are backing up so they will fit on a single sided 4.7GB disk. Use shrink w/ DVD Decryptor (Free) or FabDVD Decryptor (free), or DVD43 (free) or ANYDVD (free TRIAL 21 days - great program)

    YOu need both Nero and Shrink. Shrink is not a burning software, it is a decrypting software and Nero is a burning software. However teh guy that made Shrink now works for Nero so you have the option of having nero automatically burning it once the compression/encoding is done. But Shrink was closed down a while back so you can use it jsut be aware that some movies have a new protections. Sony's Arcos protection to be specific, and Shrink will not be able to take care of those. So download the other things just in case. I primarily use Shrink b/c it's the simplest, and I can jsut set my options and forget it.

    The reason I said you got ripped off is b/c you don't need 2 burners, unless you have a company or something and need to mass produce, one is fine. And buying the Lit-On would probably have saved you a few dozen.

    oh okay.i primarily bought two because there cdrom burners too.48x speed is fast enough for me to burn cdroms and i wanted something that would read cdroms and then burn to dvds for more space so i can play music in my bedroom through the dvd player,but with all this compressing and stuff maybe its not possible to do that,i dont really know.i though they came out with a dvd burner to add more space to your burn like cdrom is 700 mb,a dvd in dual layer is 8.5 gb which is crazy space.so the way i see it,i have to take cdrom mp3 and change it too dvd before i can burn it and play it in a regular dvd player huh?thats the other thing i want to do,i dont want to cramp my hard drive up with 50 million songs,and i want to put on dvd because these more space on it.how do i do this?will nero do this?i have 6.6 version one below,6.6 nero reloaded

    I decided it was time for me to utilize my Nero - I took one of my movies that I had not previously backed up - I opened up My Nero Startsmart - went into NeroRecode2 and it actually looks alot like Shrink! It was easy to use too. I am playing the movie now and it looks great! Recode looks JUST LIKE SHRINK (but prettier) *L*

    Of course I did still have to use a different decoder ( Nero is not going to take off encryption)

    rugripper: you dont have to neccessarily use nero there are other software packages available that will work hand in hand with shrink/decrypter and all the other burning software packages available
