Well, I've been hearing yay and nay on CMC. It's been a long time since I used one. I think I'll pick up a small batch of Memorex to see how it turns out. I'm willing to spend a few bucks to see if what everyone is saying is true.

This one is super easy... The Sony DRU830A's for me.. Why? because you can get them at walmart, take them back when they finally do tear up (minimal social engineering required sometimes) also the firmware is not proprietary so when they do start acting crazy a simple flash usually fixes them. Oh yeah, and they burn at 98% for me no matter what media.. even those crusty CMCmags Hope that helps.

Got any suggestions on a brand that's mostly CMC? I'm looking for those. How about Imation?

the HP , TDK , memorex of course are mostly cmc mag, TDK is probably your best bet though sometimes the memorex will code out as Ritek the DL anyway does

Pacman supermediastore will send you samples of different media at no charge so you might give tham a call

It's getting bad when you can't rely on Memorex to sell you some CMC. LOL I ran out to Wally World this evening and picked up a 30 pack for about $12. Got the spindle home and opened it up. The discs looked strangely familiar. I thought I'd seen that deep purple dye before. I think some of you may know what's coming next. LOL It's the +R Memorex of old. I put a disc in DVD Identifier to see if my suspicion was correct. Guess what? It was. Ricohjpn RO3.

Needless to say I'm not displeased with these at all. These are the good stuff. But I was wanting some CMC to try. I know... you guys warned me. They weren't Ritek though. LOL

Plextor 716-A (good luck finding one) does a good job on burning & reading both DVD's & CD's.

Got a Pioneer A08 that I've never used. I wonder how well it burns discs?

Seems they can still be found, but some of the retail prices are ridiculous. The other alternatives are eBay and similar sites. I've got a 716 AL and I wish I'd gotten another when some of the vendors had their closeout sales. I saw a used 716 A on Amazon for $135. Looks like the real Plexs are a collector's item. LOL
