Ok, my new LH-18A1P-186 appears as a DVD-RAM all of a sudden. I have not done anything different, pretty much over night. Still running the stock GL0F FW by the way.

Don't think it's anything to worry about; my burner does that.

Nothing to worry about? The frickin thing doesn't burn DVDs. I was busy doing other things last night so I have not troubleshoot it yet but I will tonight. The LiteOn is Master (Secondary) my Pioneer A05 is slave (on the Secondary). The Pioneer works great. Go figure. And yes, the jumpers ARE set correctly for their position.

Ah ok. I thought it had just renamed itself, not that you were having problems ;-)

UNinstall it in hardware manager, then uninstall the IDE controllers, and reboot. Windows will re-install it at start up.

See if that helps; if not, there's other things you can try.

Turned out to be the dumbest thing (not sure how it happened but I suspect the wife or FM), on the burn tab "write" was unchecked. So it wouldn't write/burn. I caught it and all is fine. And it is normal for the drive to appear as DVD-RAM in windows explorer BTW.
