My daughter is doing an assignment for Media and wants to put some movie scenes into her powerpoint presentation. We need help, we have the original DVD's and want to know what programs we need to get(free if possible) so that we can end up with the required scene from the DVD into an mpeg format on the hard drive. And the order in which to use the programs.

first use DVDDecrypter http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_decrypter.cfm (free) to rip the dvd to hard drive in file mode, then use DVD2AVI http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd2avi.cfm (free) to convert to avi, then use nero http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_applications/nero.cfm (free trial) to cut out the piece that you want to keep, then use TMPGEnc http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/tmpgenc.cfm (free trial) to convert to mpeg if that is the format you need if avi is fine skip this program
